Slender: The Arrival

    • Wow, the internet is the only place you can find a bunch of entitled people complaining about a free experience that isn't forced upon them. As if they've somehow been personally insulted and attacked by the product, it's weird man.

In many ways, Slender's success is Pewdie's fault. So if you're going to blame someone for the oversaturation, aim your fingers towards him. Personally, I think it's great that experimental horror games are getting mainstream exposure, can only mean good things for horror games in general.

      PARSEC PLEASE.

A new Slender game made by the original creator? Cool.
It's being sold? Come the hell on.

Well they've added much more content, and considering they've been putting a lot of work into this, it's not a bad thing to want to be paid for your hard work. I doubt the price is going to be that high anyway. I don't see the problem with Parsec selling what is a full game.

That's not what we're raging about. The first Slender (even I'll admit) was pretty good and I'm almost sure if it wasn't for Pewdie none of us would even know that it exists. It's the fact that so many crappy remakes are being made and now they're trying to make people pay for it. It's really rather sickening. It's only a matter of time before Slender appears on the iTunes market being sold for £3.79... infact, a portable version of the original wouldn't be that bad of an idea but the price? Nah, I'd rather go down the shops and get garlic and chips with a burger for my £4.

Except this isn't a remake, this is an actual sequel with new content and levels, with a storyline added to it, made by the original developers. They made an experiment, seen how people reacted, and now they've made the full game, to give people what they want. I don't see how putting time, money, and effort into a game for slender fans and then asking for some money back is "sickening"?

    • Maybe used too much of a harsh word but it's not the sort of game that should draw money in... The main reason 99% of people play it is to upload themselves getting scared for the enjoyment of their youtube audience. It would be like turning the scary maze game into a whole emphatic adventure game with tight corners and jump scares with a story. It's exactly the same fad which will probably die down and never be heard from again in a couple of months time when something new is released and goes viral. If they want money they should put adverts on the free version. Not to be spiteful to the creator(s) but because I really can't see it taking off at all.

    • In some ways, the posts in this thread actually scared the sh*t out of me.

Sorry for a little off-topic, but can you guys tell me what exactly you hate about Slender man game/games? The character, the overhyped gameplay or both?

I'm getting nervous because I've started my own Slender man game after the release of the original, because I really liked the concept and the character (although I've read about Slender man mythos before that), and this gave me a lot of inspiration. I'm putting in it as much efford as I can, and it's not gonna a game where you have to collect stuff to win. It's gonna be some kind of 3d adventure/quest, like the amnesia, with items, puzzles and different locations. I've also came up with my own storyline for this game. I also have an artist and composer who's helping me.

Don't take this as an advertisment, I'm not gonna tell the name of the game here. I just wanna know if my effort won't be worthless and hated by everyone.
    • Cmon, it won't be hated by everyone. as you can see, there are TONS of people playin Slender ...

I just don't quite like it because it's always the same thing .. only with different maps .. "get the Paper/note/toy/Shizzle/Bacon/dildo before bad stuffs appear behind youuu" ... I mean, i won't hate you or the game ... I just won't play it (unless you pay me to do so :p)

But yeah ... Good luck with that ! (x

I'd say continue making the game. Your take on it sounds original compared to the others, and who knows, maybe you'll do a better job than Parsec has done with Slender: The Arrival.

Wait, so do you want them to iterate and make the game deeper and more worthwhile or not? You say the problem is that too many people are rehashing the same game over and over, then Parsec comes along and says 'hey, we're going to increase the quality, content and depth of this game based on OUR OWN EXPERIMENTAL ALPHA' and you say oh it won't take off. I don't know if you know this, but Slenderman's Shadow, made by two copycat pricks with coding knowledge, makes a new level for every $150 of sponsoring they get. And they barely change anything with each new map. They are the ones you should be boycotting, not the dude who made the explosively popular original who just wants to iterate on his basic idea and maybe make a few bucks along the way.

I am looking forward to someone doing something engaging and new with the SlenderMan mythos, and I can see that this game will at least TRY to do that. Give them a break, sheesh.

I give the makers props because they come out with these fairly nicely developed games
but why do they not move on to something other than slenderman?
In my opinion i would love to see a game on other creepypastas like jeff the killer or SOMETHING!
I liked the slender game but now its just out of hand...

Read the whole thread. All the slender games after the original were NOT made by the same people. All others after first are copycats.

THIS GAME is the only one by the guy who developed the original, he has every right to make another one. It's the SlenderMan's shadow people, who are making money from another persons idea, that should be boycotted.

Oh okay! Well i totally see your point. But in general too many slender games (and other paraphernalia) , no matter who its by. The story of slenderman has been around for quite a long while but it never got very popular till the game and the knock off games and what not. It just somewhat bothers me.
Im really hoping the original creator makes this slender game good and makes other games not just based on the slenderman, because I for one
am feeling like im in a gaming rut.

What I'm saying is that the reason it took off is because it was free (and arguably because pewdiepie played it)
Who knows, the full version might be good but all most people play the game for is what I said - to entertain an audience.

The reason a lot of youtubers play this is because there is a HUGE audience who want to watch it. This game is definitely only this popular because of pewdiepie, and if he plays Slender Arrival, that's millions of viewers who's curiosity will probably make them buy it. Who wouldn't want to appeal to that?

    • True, true... but they can't rely on the chance that Pewdiepie himself (money obviously not an issue for the guy but...) will buy it and do a Let's Play on it or even mention it at all. I wish them the best of luck with it but... I really struggle to visualize it. I'll be interested when it comes out just to see what they could do with such a simple game the more we discuss it but I really cannot see success for it just because of what people interpreted from the original. I, for one, didn't know it was just an experiment.

    • Exactly, there the same because there all basaed on the one game. i dnt think there intention is to change the game, just give it alittle twist to fun of the game. look im not tryn to be a Slenderman advocate here, im just saying that people enjoy themselfs playing the game, so why not just let it be an not bash the production of possible new ones being made.

    • No, no, no, so many of you are missing the point. It's not "just another Slender game". It's a full commercial game done properly. Slender was nothing more than an experiment. It's popularity was unintentional, and the countless rip-offs were the price to pay.

This is going to be so much more than simply "run around, collect shizz while something pops up behind you". I don't know how exactly it's going to work, but as I said before, it'll probably be more like Alan Wake or Amnesia than the original Slender. Quite frankly, for the effort he's putting into it alone he deserves to put a price on it. I know for a fact I would, and so would any of you. It's not just an experiment anymore, it's the real thing.
