Okay, so I finished Amnesia: A Machine For Pigs just a week ago, so I decided to post a forum to give tips to you other Amnesia players on what to do to avoid danger and stuff.
Here are a few tips, (I am not sure if they are helpful at all but I'll try to make them as helpful as possible :D).
1. When your lantern flickers constantly, that usually means that there is a monster nearby ( you might also hear constant squeals).
2. When there is a monster nearby, always hide or stay in the darkness ( do not turn on your lantern). Monsters will not usually despawn like the original Amnesia so, try to find ways to get pass them in the darkness while CROUCHING.
3. When a monster sees you, RUN INTO THE DARKNESS. (the darkness is your friend in this game).
4. Monsters usually spawn after finishing puzzles or when your going near your objective ( they will not spawn at random).
5. Monsters will usually patrol the area: they move back and forth: in circles USUALLY.
6. There are 4 monsters encountered:
1. default manpigs: these are usually encountered: they are dumb and just patrol around in circles but can be REALLY fast. At some time, they will spawn in a pack BE CAREFUL.
2. Engineer: these are the fat bulky ones: they are just like the man pigs, but stronger.
3. Kaernk: the water monster. Don't stay in the water for TOO LONG. ( I don't think you can anyway :P). (wall blocks).
4. The Tesla Pig: Teleporting Electro Supa Pigs: Encountered only at about 2 scenes: 1st scene just RUN, 2nd scene: There are four switches in this one BIG ROOM and the tesla pig will constantly teleport and hunt you down till you turn off all the switches so, RUN to the switches as FAST AS POSSIBLE. There are about 4 switches.
7. Don't worry about sanity and health: there is NO SANITY levels in this game and health regenerates.
8. Don't worry about finding oil for your lantern. (Your lantern cannot turn off).
9.DON'T look for closets to hide in ( all closets ARE LOCKED).
10. When you are near a monster, who doesn't see you, do NOT SPRINT (he'll spot ya) find a way to go around him in the darkness instead.
