    • Youtube Partnership and Third Party Content

      Hello bros,

I was just wondering what the circumstances are with being a youtube partner but having some of your videos containing acknowledged third party content? The videos are available for view and have no copyright strikes against them (just music overlay in some parts of the videos which is in turn owned by giants such as Universal).

At the same time I would like to become a youtube partner in the future (quite close to achieving that goal) and was wondering if having these third party matched videos would prevent me from becoming a partner. Should I remove the music within these videos using the audio swap feature or just remove them full stop.

      Thanks dudes,

      Dan
    • You should delete all the video's or edit them if they have third party (copyrighted) content on it. Networks won't partner you if you have it and they are going to be mad pissed if you lie about it also.

Maker Studios has made an agreement with Universal to make their content (Music) available to its network/sub-networks (Socialblade,RPM, N4Gtv etc.) for remixes only and I currently do not know when they are going to roll it out/

Ah thanks. I'm looking into editing them now using the remove track feature and just using the audio swap with youtube selection of music.

I see, I will look into that - I'm still small time at the minute with around 200 subs within a month; but I'm picking up due the footage I'm uploading. I just have to be careful with third party content and monetization terms and conditions. Thanks for the reply.
    • Quick question, and it's probably nothing. I have one video with acknowledged content (from the movie "The Downfall"), and I did an app with RPM to see the results.

Not enough viewers, expected that, and copyrighted videos, expected that too.

But it also said I had strikes against my account. Huh? My account has always been in good standing for over 2 years. I checked and it was still all green. I don't want to delete the video to test this out just yet, but I thought acknowledged third party content and copyright strikes were two separate things.

Not in any rush, just curious.

EDIT: You got 200 subs in a month? WOW! Good job! =)
You're definately not small time and should get partnered pretty easily for all zee perks.

    • Third party content is still copyrighted material it depends on the ownership rights of the material ie. using music could be owned by Universal etc. where as film material could be different. I think you get copyright strikes from third party content sometimes, I know that you should always acknowledge using the content unless it is your own (dispute).

Thanks dude ^^ I just need to ask permissions from Naughty Dog and figure out how to get a partnership haha.

The strikes against your account is just bullshit if you don't have them, RPM tends to spew crap randomly. They refused me due to the fact I didnt use Social Media enough and even all the staff here are wtfing about that.

Err, Naughty Dog is a Gamedeveloper? If you do commentary/let's plays you are fine if you talk over it.

It was kinda sarcasm, if you make letsplays you don't have to ask the dev/publisher for permission actually.

But if you are planning to monetize the lets play video/series, you should ask premission from the dev/publisher (assuming you are NOT part of network).

Moneytizing before getting partnered is obsolete and only imo idiots would do so, once you can get a fair amount of money from it , you are already partnered with a network. Its not worth to moneytize some cents for risk.

Well its a trap that many seem to fall for, if I didnt stumble across these forums I propably would have been one of them. Warnings are there but easy to miss. But if you do fall for trap you should atleast play safe by getting premissions and suchs so you wont get f*ed over side ways by the trap.
    • Third Party content claim

I was just about to make a thread about this, if we could possibly expand a little more into this topic I'd appreciate it.

I just got a notification of one of my videos being matched for third party content. I read the details, my video is "available and playable". But I'm still a little confused.

Your video is available and playable.

      Here are the details:

Visual content administered by: THQ at 16:33

The video in question is my first lets play of Saints Row 3, and THQ is
the company with the content claim. It's the very beginning of the game
for me, but the content claim is specified at a point almost halfway
      through the video at 16:33.

None of my other Saints Row 3 videos have this notification, and as far as I know they all fall under fair use. Can anyone point out what specifically makes that part of my clip claimed? Should I be disputing? I do want to be able to become a partner sometime down the road.

Have you spotted anything that might have triggered the claim at the specified time? You could try to re-upload the video and tamper a little bit around with it.
Well, considering it was a claim by THQ (they made or produced the game in question) I assume it has to do with the scene. But, there are several cutscenes before that one that they could claim.

I WAS playing co-op at the time, and his phone went off. He had a song by an artist that was featured in the game (Benny Banassi), but it isn't the song featured in the game, and it wasn't for more than 4-5 seconds and hardly clear. That is the only thing I can think of that makes that clip different from any other cutscene.

The main things I'm trying to clear up are:
      1. My account is all still in good standing even with the content ID claim. What does this mean for future partner prospects? Can I still get a partnership with this?

2.Does this seem disputable? It is technically their content, but they aren't claiming a copyright infringement. It should fall under fair use, and the details of content ID claiming are somewhat vague.

Anything to help clear up those two points would put me at ease, I have not acknowledged nor disputed to claim yet.
