How to do lucid dreaming?

The forums have been archived. Please read this thread for more information.

    • Ok so i actually have quite abit of experience in this subject. And i now pretty much 80% of my dreams I am lucid dreaming which for those of you who may be confused DOES NOT mean that you are controling your dreams, it simply means that you know that you are dreaming. Dream control is something you can gain once you fully realise you are dreaming but alot of the time you know, but you just go with it.

There is MANY different ways you can go about it and i'll refer you to a website in just a moment that has the best possible tutorials on the subject but let me tell you a few things.
There are many tells in a dream that can allow you to become lucid, but for everyone they are usually different however there are some that affect all of us.
For example, a huge percentage of people subconciously know they are dreaming when ones teeth either fall out or something strange starts happening to them. That's a very common thing in dreams and usually people see this, and now once you've read this there is a HIGH chance that now in your dreams when this particular thing happens you'll become lucid.

      Some tips;

If you ever happen to full become aware you're in the dream and you have control, CALM THE HELL DOWN.
Too many lucid dreams are lost because people just get excited and go nuts and think they can just go off and do anything, this is infact incorrect.
You can do ANYTHING in a dream when you are not in control and your mind is the pilot, but as soon as you take control, all that goes out the window.
Usually you can NOT, and this is the most common thing to do in lucid dreaming, fly straight away.
Usually it just isn't possible, you need to build up your skills in the dream and build momentum.

If you feel like your REM cycle is ending or your lucid dream is slipping away, Spinning around or rubbing your hands together is a really common and effective way to keep the dream going, but you must keep calm else you'll drop out anyway.

There are many terms in lucid dreaming only one of which i'll use here as it's the most easiest to do for begniners, although you must be very dedicated.

This technique is called 'WBTB', 'Wake back to bed'.

It involves you going to bed at a decent hour around 10:30pm or so, although this isn't necessary. Now the periods of time where you actually DREAM is within cycles called 'REM' and you have several through-out your night.
What's that? Does that mean i dream several times throughout the night? Yes.
Usually your mind wipes the last dream clean to start another and you don't remmeber it, but you can conquer this, with dedication.

The way WBTB is done is like i said, go to bed at a decent hour as the REM cycles don't start to happen until the last part of your dreaming, so usually at about 3am+ you'll start to have decent REM cycles, and you must wake up just before a REM cycle, as the cycle is usually REM, (Another i wont discuss), REM, (""), REM ("") and so forth, so it's extremely hard to do so, but with practice you can get it right.
Sleep for 6 hours and set an alarm, although not too loud. Once it goes off, usually around 6 horus is when a REM cycle starts although it's hard to do later on as your REM cycles get longer and longer throughout the night.
Stay up in the DARK, don't turn lights on or do anything really physical and stay up for 30 minutes. Your body will want to sleep so badly after this 30 minutes that this is the time where you strike.

Repeat this in your head as you fall asleep, 'I will become lucid, i will become lucid' etc etc. This is an extremely good techinique even befor egoing to bed, as you keep it going so its the last thoguht you have before going to sleep.

Now this can fail, but don't be discouraged, lucid dreaming takes practice and once you have the hang of it, you can REALLY use it :)

Use this website wholey and soley, you won't need anything else, this has THE. BEST. STUFF. you can find, HAPPY LUCID DREAMING :)
      dreamviews.com

P.S for the guy who said he'll use it to lose his virginity, it's not possible as you've never felt what it's like to have sex so you can't exactly imagine it.
    • Well i read about this allot ,and what you should do is if you REALLY WANT i don't recommend this because it can turn into sleep paralysis and that is not pretty at all
First thing you want to do is lay on your bed totally relaxed , its recommended to lay on your belly . Then close your eyes and don't move a muscle , you should ignore
everything , if something is itching ,ignore it ,eye twitching (this is the hard one ) and possibly you will starting to see some weird stuff ,some shapes or something and
remember your eyes are still closed ...During that process your brain is sending a serum of sleep (or something ) to your body parts ,what that serum does is keeping
you stay still during the night ,it suppresses movement during the dreams and that serum is making us dream basically ... 1st rule is to not open your eyes at any point ,
if you do ,you wont be able to move ,and you will see crazy stuff ,that why i don't recommend this ,most people who are trying to achieve lucid dreaming end up in
sleep paralysis ,its risky ,but if you end up in sleep paralysis , every thing you think off during that time will appear in seconds , and if you want to move during the
sleep paralysis you have to imagine the rope over your head and climbing on it and if you succeed you will see yourself lying in the bed ,but you can turn sleep
paralysis in lucid dream by forcing yourself to believe that all you are seeing is a dream (it sound easy but it isn't ) and if you do that you think of something that
you want to do and it will appear (something nice ) , people usually think off horrible stuff and lucid dream turns into nightmare . Well that is all that i can think of ,either
way if you end up in paralysis or lucid dream you will wake up ,don't need to worry As for my experiences i dont have any , i learned so much about this topic from my
friends , and scientist say that all people have 1 to 2 lucid dream or sleep paralysis by accident

I highly suggest not using this method to begin with it's hard to do and if you don't do it 100% It can leave you with a good 2-3hours wasted and a very sore body.

    • Wow, you guys know a good amount of information about this, I'm surprised! Thanks for all that. I think I had a lucid dream today..When I woke up I could easily go back to sleep in 5-10 seconds and be in my dream again (same dream), anyone know what that is?

    • That doesn't really have a name, it's jsut something you can do easily. It unfortunately isn't really a feat, but you can use this technique in some methods to induce lucid dreaming.
I only know of 3 people that can Lucid Dream on command, that means lieing down and instantly fall asleep directly into a dream they can control immediately.
If you want to try this technique although very advanced, look on the dreamviews forums for a WILD tutorial, that's the method and it is easier to do during the day rather than the night, as at night most of your brain is shut down for rest, and during the day it is not. Therefore you can keep your mind more concious while tricking your body in to sleep, inducing sleep paralysis, and using other techniques to inject yourself into a lucid dream.

      Good luck :)
    • About the one with the sleep paralysis, most people don't recommend it but what I know is if you are in sleep paralysis is just to try your breathing pattern so your body can know that you're awake.
I haven't had a lucid dream, well I think i've had, but never really controlled it. I don't really mind anymore. I'm going to try and create my dreams into a reality (Mainly what I mean is on my artworks or anything like that.)

    • The thing about sleep paralysis is that it's completely normal. Most people as they sleep get sleep paralysis so that when they move in their dream they don't move in the waking world. People wiht sleep apnea and sleep walking issues don't get sleep paralysis, which can cause alot of problems.

As stated above i'll put it in easier to understand terms. If you wake to still be in paralysis, don't panic, it's perfectly fine. All you need to do is alter your breathing pattern, so try taking really deep breaths in and out of the mouth and then change to short quick breaths through the mouth. Your body will quickly realise you're awake and revive your nervous system and you'll be fine. There are other methods like fluttering your eyelids and other things, but the easiest is the breatheing pattern alternations.

There are cases where if you stay in it to long it can start to cause some form of mental pain and other things that are unenjoyable, but very rarely. If it were to ever occur, i constantly remind myself that it'll be over soon (whilst trying things to break the paralysis) and that in a matter of minutes the pain won't matter as much.

Please note what i failed ot mention in my other posts. Is while attempting to lucid dream, you attempt to walk the line between conscious and unconscious, and by doing so you're on the border of sleep where very real thigns in your mind can occur. I have heard VIA several people that whilst doing this they've heard BLOOD. CURDLING. screams from behind their bedroom door, and in a petrified state screamed only to have it stop as their adrenaline kicked in and they realised it wasn't real.
It WILL seem real but it isn't, you would have to be VERY unfortunate for someone to walk into your room with a gun, you thinking its not real, and it actually is...
    • I did reality checks for serveral weeks with looking at every clock and every text twice or more. Didn't help at all, still had normal dreams, that's why I gave up.

Also, loosing virginity in a dream is not recommended, cause you are literally losing it to yourself. And it will probably feel like fapping since you can't really have feelings in a dream that you never had before.

I only had one half-lucid dream once, where I dreamed about wanting to have a lucid dream so I actually dreamed within a dream. I was in some sort of Ego-Shooter and it was really fun until I woke up in my dream and seconds later in reality, cause of excitement.

A friend of mine who is a huge fan of Inception like me tried Sleep Paralysis and only saw strange faces around him and his hand was blurry, not sure if I want that.

I think for it to work you really need a diary where you write everything about your dream that you had last night down so it will become usual for your brain to remember dreams, but I'm waaay to lazy to do so.

Forever alone level = losing virginity to him/herself. xD
      :|

I forgot to say that yesterday I tried sleep paralysis but I couldn't do it. I was laying on my back, eyes closed, trying to stay completely still for a few minutes, nothing happened. WHY!

    • That would be because you were focusing hard on Lucid Dreaming.

You should let go of all stuff and stop thinking of stuff.

Let all the imagery and all the things that come into your head come and go. Let them flow. Don't interact with them.

Just think of nothing. I know it's hard, but, you can do it with practice. Also, try not to move any part of your body.

None. Not even your eyeball under your closed eyelids.

Soon enough, if you done that correctly, a strong numbness sensation will start taking over your body. Sometimes, from feet and up, sometimes, starting from random places.

Either way, if you resist that, you will not be able to move your body at all. Don't be scared, because if you do, your mind will start playing tricks on you.

You might hear voices like people calling your name or other stuff. But don't worry, soon enough, you'll go into a dream.

Really? I read on some sites that you have to think ''I'm going to lucid dream, I'm going to lucid dream'' over and over again in your head..
Goddamn I'm confused. I'm also too lazy for a dream journal.

This guy actually knows what he's talking about. /Applaud.

Here toby let me link you the ultimate WILD tutorial, which is esentually what you are trying to do only.. you don't know the actual name of it ;)
Oh this is a shame... There was one guy on here who was one of the people i knew to induce lucid dreaming on command, and he made a tutorial about it, but i can not find it... Damn it..

      Although go here: dreamviews.com/f81/

They host courses for it, as far as i know they don't charge, its only really like homework stuff, but you do it every day and increases your chance ot lucid dream, remember some are naturals like me, where i lucid draem 90% of my dreams, other hard a really hard time. It's just how it is.

Well see that's said by people who havent mastered it. Although this does work its not THE BEST METHOD.
This guy im talking about who lucid dreams on command, has a technique where he plays a game with his mind, and it balances him on the edge of concious and unconcious, eventually his body falls asleep he ignores all images that appear as that cn distract you until the final moment when the dream combusts infront of his eyes and you're in.

Constant messages being repeated over and over help ALOT. I mean ALOT for beginners, but this technique he used i'll explain.

He'll think of something in this case start with a snowball, now think of something that has to do with that, i'll play the game Now as an example.

Snowball, snow, water, drink, dam, horse, shoe, sole, rubber, tyre, car, chevy, engine, piston, semi, etc etc. That keeps his mind awake but just le tthe words float around dont focus hard and dont go too fast.
It's an art and it requires dedication, you arent going to do it in the first month without it ;)

That sounds like a technique that could actually work for me.

      Thanks for sharing that.

    • Sorry i went to bed :P

Well it all depends on what you wanna start out with. I think MILD is where for a week you imagine in EVERY. DETAIL. a d ream you want, and eventually it could happen.

I myself tried this is it's the easiest, and it ACTUALLY happened, half way through i got side tracked and never got to the girls house houses up from me ;) bu ti think i didn't plan out too many details from thee. But this is out i started mine out:

I started on my living room couch, opened my eyes, all was quiet in the house with no one there, all the windows and doors were poen and outside... The beach, i mean my house was literally on a beach, shaded by trees. It was beautiful. Then i was to jump over the coffee table, head to the front door, walk THROUGH it, not open it, leave it closed, walk through it (This is one of my more easier thigns to doo, i do it in most of my dreams) which for some people they can't ge thte feel for. Then i what i described in my mind as 'ghost flying' up to her house, abit like my legs didnt touch the ground, i was in a smokey kind of form, everything was black and white, but half way up instead of going to her house, there was a child to the left on the drive way, from there i can't remember but i know i went SUPER off track, but up until her ei planned out this entire thing.

Now there are mmaannnyyy ways to go about it, and you wont know which one you like more and which one will give you the most success until you try them or, so many go to their tutorial section on their forums first, check some out, do some, then hit up those sessions with the kind you want.
