I recently picked up the Haupaugge HD PVR 2 since it was on sale. It's been great so far and it doesn't lag my game while playing at all. I got mine for $150 I've heard absolutely amazing things about the Elgato capture card. (Aprox $170) But in your case, if you are looking to conserve money you could probably settle with a $30 - $40 Dazzle cap card. Made my first Hauppauge video. The quality is pretty nice! The PS3 is a bit limited from full quality due to recordings being in component (HDCP prevents HDMI input in records on PS3).
