I'd say don't use windows live maker if possible. It's not known to handle all file types real well, especially those with a high file size. But what do you mean by "stuck" exactly?

Syncing audio and video is always a pain in the ass. If you are recording the webcam and your voice separately, a good way to make sure you are syncing and timing it right, is to hold up fingers, and count 1, 2, 3, as you hold up 1, then 2, then 3 fingers. What framerate do you have Fraps to record at? If you are experiencing lag, try lowering the framerate Fraps records at and see if it helps. And no, running amnesia on windowed mode will not cause Fraps to record the whole screen. It will still just record the Amnesia window. Well, the second game could be Cops 2170: The Power Of Law. It will help better if you know what system each game was for. Since you are speaking of a game you played 9 years ago, I'd say it was around 2003 or so, which is the PS2 and xbox era of games.

The software he uses for his voice recording is the software that came with his webcam.

There aren't too many programs that have a hotkey option when it comes to webcam recording. And the ones that do aren't free from what I know. I think Camtasia has the option but not certain. Your best bet is to start your camera recording, then start the game recording, and use your mouse to hover over selections like "New Game" "Continue" "Exit Game" etc, and speak each word as you hover over it.
