  • Facecam Help? :/

My friends and I want to start recording gameplay and commentary so we bought FRAPS and an Microsoft HD-3000 camera and a Logitech Meteor Microphone to use. We have FRAPS working completely but we can't figure out how to get the camera to start recording. While it came with software, you can't press a key for the software to automatically start and stop recording using the webcam, is there any way to do this? Any programs? And what does PewDiePie do? Does he ALT-TAB out of the game to start recording, does Adobe Premier have hoykeys, or does he have a dual monitor setup? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, bros. ^^
  • There aren't too many programs that have a hotkey option when it comes to webcam recording. And the ones that do aren't free from what I know. I think Camtasia has the option but not certain. Your best bet is to start your camera recording, then start the game recording, and use your mouse to hover over selections like "New Game" "Continue" "Exit Game" etc, and speak each word as you hover over it. That's what I do for my recordings, and then I sync the two pieces together.

PewDie uses the software that came with his camera.
  • Instead of ALT-TABing outta the game, do what I do, it's what my friend taught me:
    Open the cam
    Open the game
Start recording the cam as the game starts up
Whenever you wanna start the video, look at the cam and count down from 3, and then press the hotkey for recording the game, do your video, and do the same thing at the end.
It's helped me a a lot with video/cam synch. Just try it. And for the Webcam, here:
    go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=201089
You have to download the driver for it, install it, and BLAM, there you have a software with a recording button AND a picture button! Howz 'bout dat?!
Yeah, it took me awhile to figure this out with my Logitech cam. You usually need a driver for them. I am 99.988798% sure this should work, but then again, I have a Logitech. Try that out. Tell me how it goes. :)
  • Hey, everybody. I have a slight update. I went the way of PewDie and bought a second monitor and extended the desktop. However, when I have Amnesia running, I can't drag the mouse to the other monitor. Obviously, having the game windowed fixes that issue but then the game has a severe drop in framerate. My computer's specs are technically better than PewDie's so how does he actually do it? I know he has two monitors and uses Windows Movie Maker. How does he have Amnesia? Is there something I'm missing?
  • Thanks, XFire's a nice program but I have a few issues with it. First off; when I have the webcam showing, how can I remove the blue letters that say "Scroll Lock + E to adjust". Also, can I remove the gray border around the webcam's video?
  • Okay, I had the extra money to buy so I bought XSplit. You're right, it is a very good program. I'm just having a few problems. First off; I want to record in 720p so I added two sources to my scene. My webcam(default 720p|aspect ratio) and Amnesia(custom 720p|non-aspect ratio to avoid black borders around video). I thought that would work but my webcam recording is brighter and Amnesia seems darker. Also, the video is very pixelated. I thought that it might be because I changed the ratio of the game's recording but the webcam is like that, too. Also, I don't get any audio recorded. I need both microphone and windows' sound recorded. Am I doing something wrong?
