If you only plan on doing something similar to crooked man then RPG maker should be fine. Otherwise I suggest you try game maker. It's awsome for begginers as it uses a lot of drag&drop actions to ease you into coding. If you are having problems with fraps(specially how huge the recorded files are, that was the nr. 1 turnoff for me) I recommend you use Bandicam. Thats what I'm using. It's simple and easy to use, has all the options you'd want for a beginner, can record both full screen apps as well as just portions of the screen. And after recording a few dozen games with it I haven't run into any problems so far.

Honestly the first console, if you can call it that, that I got my hand on(wasn't even mine, a friend of my mothers loaned it to us) was a knock off of.... what was it called, that thing that could play only ping pong?
