free pixel game development kit?

So I'm planning to make my own pixel game (like the crooked man, mad father etc.) but I don't really know much about development kits, so if anyone can tell me a good free easy to use development kit that would be a great help.

Try RPG Maker VX Ace, there's trials available...

It's pretty sweet. :)

If you only plan on doing something similar to crooked man then RPG maker should be fine. Otherwise I suggest you try game maker. It's awsome for begginers as it uses a lot of drag&drop actions to ease you into coding. Check it out, olso has some very good tutorials to get you started and a pretty decent forum community when you need help.
