I've been using these: rpgmakervx.net/index.php?showtopic=5576 That gives you some modern, and science lab ones. Depends what you need really. For your first game, I would advise using the default until you finish laying the maps and events out; since aesthetics can be changed quite easily later on.

RPGMaker certainly is very popular. I'm making my own too. I think it's popular for not so technical people who don't know a lot about coding or building game engines, like me, to create a game with a story and puzzles. There is room to change and improve artwork but that is down to the developers own skill level as well, the program provides a lot to people. Horror games, in a very general sense, tend to be about the story. That obviously isn't a black and white rule, but this software is great…

Kerrima - - Suggestions
PostI'm sorry if this doesn't help, but your comments are a little vague. Unless it has been packaged into the game, RPGMaker games require this to play: http://www.rpgmakerweb.com/download/run-time-package You may have already done this though. If it's still not working then I don't know, sorry.

I'm struggling to get something working in my game. Basically, I want the player to fall over when they die, instead of it going straight to the Game Over screen. I'm pretty new and I don't know the options well. How can I add a death animation to the player? Edit: This game is almost done (I think). Couple of my friends have been playing it to find bugs. I just need to iron those out, finish my monster sprites, and create video intro/ending. Then I should have a game ready. Still estimating a f…

Let me shamelessly copy and paste something from my own thread: I see horror as 3 elements put together: jumpscares/shock (you all know what I mean); tension/suspense (that part where you really don't want to go over there D: ); and being taken out of your comfort zone (usually with good story telling and back story that makes you think "It's so creepy and weird!" D: ) If you successfully run these three aspects of horror together, then you will do well.

I really like RPGMaker VX Ace. There is a "Lite" trial version which you can do a fair bit on. Atleast enough to figure out if it's for you. I think you can still import as well, so if you create all your tiles from scratch you might not need the full version. I'm not sure what the duration of the trial is, if there is at all. I only noticed there are limits to the number of variables/characters/items you can use. I'm making my own game as well. I'm not very technical, and don't know nay script,…

Hello, I'm making a horror point-and-click game with RPGMaker. I know, right? Another one! I'm trying to add something a little different though. This game should be a lot shorter. Ideally ~20 minutes and no more than an hour. The game is going to be designed with re-playability in mind. So at the end of the game you get a score that is based on your time and the number of objectives you complete. On top of that, depending on the objectives completed, it will reveal a certain amount of story at …
