    • Making an RPG Maker Ace VX Horror Game

      Hello!
I'm currently planning on making a horror game with RPG Maker Ace VX, and I kinda need ideas on what to put in the game.

I have been playing around with the program before, and I understand the basics + a bit more, so I think I should be able to make a game out of it.
Although, I'm not very good at making custom sprites x]

So if you have any input/suggestions, I would be more than happy ^^
    • I really don't anything about that, the noises can make a game really scare, even without jumpscares at all, and you should put a monster like after 1-2 minutes of gameplay, that will make the person more scared, and enjoying more of the game. At least it's what i think. Make the noises really loud, and make the monsters really scary.
I really don't know if this is going to help you at all, but if it does, have a good luck making the game!

    • Remember that atmosphere is quite important when it comes to RPG Maker games, especially if it is a horror game. If you want a scary game you will have to build the atmosphere to a point so that you can release it with e.g. a jumpscare or that something starts to hunt the protagonist. That and some 'safe zones' so that the player can feel safe at some point.
Good luck with the project! I wish you the best of luck :D

    • Let me shamelessly copy and paste something from my own thread:

I see horror as 3 elements put together: jumpscares/shock (you all know what I mean); tension/suspense (that part where you really don't want to go over there D: ); and being taken out of your comfort zone (usually with good story telling and back story that makes you think "It's so creepy and weird!" D: )

If you successfully run these three aspects of horror together, then you will do well.

Coming up: Pilot's Story, Caroline's Fall
    • A good Horror game is when you're actually afraid of your own creation. O.O Sadly, I'm kind of afraid of mine. Anyways, for every horror game, there needs to be a story first. Once you get the story, it's pretty easy to implement jump scares.

      Jumpscares:
      1. Sudden Noise - Happy Music, lalala--BANG! SCARY SCREAM! Just loud Horror FX sounds
      2. You think You're Safe -- Monster comes in, Players hides, Monster starts going away, Forced Sound made, Monster chases player. You think you're safe but you're NOT.
      3. Adrenaline Run - Put up Suspense Music and the ghost chase Player. :) I hope you know the YEA - Event Chase player
      4. Slow Horror - Player walks, ghost follows behind. Player turns, nothing there. Repeats, repeats, until Ghost chase begins.

...Sorry, that's all I can think of... Pretty much made most of this stuff up, but they work.

Anyways, gotta choose a story first. Is the protagonist male or female? What's the name? Where she live? How the hell did he/she end up getting chased by an evil spirit? Those kinds you need to think of, and once you get the grip, it will develop on its own.
    • If you're gonna have a monster, don't make it look like the Oni. That thing made me laugh the first time I saw it xD

    • Play two or more RPG Maker horror games first, there are usually pretty good ideas in the famous ones. The Witch's House, Ib, Misao, Mad Father, The Crooked Man (Games that Pewds already played) Are some of the most Known horror RPG games made with and RPG Maker.
Have in mind that you'll mostly require the element of surprise, since it's an RPG.
Try to add a good visual atmosphere to the game, suitable scenarios for suitable situations!
As Pewds says, music IS important to the game. Try surfin' on the net and see if you can find good RPG music, that'll create an ambience too! ;)
And have fun making it, try to make the story as twisted as possible, creating a text ambience far beyond your imagination! :D

Btw, does anyone know if there are any free horror tiles out there?
I'm not sure how good I would be making them myself :/

You can go on google and search "free tile sets" or something similar to that :) but then you would have to credit them
