Just one question, is the LP you're doing something scary where you're going to make the most of your expressions? If not i'd say don't do it. I use a Mac for all of my recording and gaming, but as far as a free screen recorders go you're sorta shit out of luck. I use Screenflow for my recording/editing and it costs 100 dollars. I record video/audio with Screenflow when I'm playing non-console games. For console gaming I use my Hauppauge HD PVR 2 and record my commentary with Audacity.

You should definitely save up your money for a quality microphone. Even if you're able to put out 10 videos with a crap mic and 1 video with a high quality mic. The latter is always going to be better. Patience is a virtue my friend.
