Pop filter?

  • Hi! I have a Steelseries Siberia V2 headset, and use the integrated microphone to record my commentary. The sound is correct, especially since I discovered how to increase the bass with Audacity, because this mic makes them disappear. However, it records every breath I take, and all the plosive sounds when I talk.

Do you think that the use of a small pop filter like this kind for example: dv247.com/microphones/rode-ws-hs1-b-pop-filter--88751 would change a thing? I can't buy a full size pop filter without buying another mic, and it's something I don't want to do for the moment (Maybe when I'll become better at commenting).

If there's no solution for this kind of mic, I'll simply continue to spit in my microphone when talking ;p
Have you seen a tea party taken to a whole
new level? Well my tea party features the usual stuff (tea, cake,
pastries...) mixed with video games, monsters, ghosts, blood and lots of
    screams and giggles.

Don't be shy and join the party, there's room for everyone! Here's the path to

  • Hey.

The reason a pop filter removes a lot of those sounds is because it separates itself from the casing of the microphone, and thus, the sound of your breathing/etc doesn't hit the microphone, and won't make (as much) noise. So, yes, it will help. Although it won't be "perfect" without a better microphone, it will still make a good difference. =)

(It is something I should really invest in :p)

  • Okay, thanks for your answers bros :3

I didn't know these tiny foam ones were that much effective. In this case, I'll check a few stores tomorrow morning and see if they have a nice hat for my mic.

  • Great idea! But a bit impossible to apply for me, because it's too ridiculous for my facecam x') I'm going to try cutting one out of a kitchen sponge (I hope that it's not going to completely block the sound of me talking), it may be good until I have a real one. It'll be a little bit classier than a sock (even if I have very nice ones with lace trim and everything x'D).

It's incredible, I phoned a dozen of stores around where I live and nobody sells these things. I had to order them on a website, and they sent me an email because they are out of stock. I have to wait one week until they send them to me ;(
