Seems everyone has a different opinion on this so here's mine.
Playing in co-op in any game I've EVER played has made the experience either easier or not scary in the slightest.
Perhaps if you added an extra 4-8 pages depending on the amount of players, made the player models look a bit less like they've just been copied and pasted from Team Fortress 2 and make it so that anyone can be killed by Slenderman at any time instead of what someone else suggested about having Slenderman go after them one at a time in a set order.
I mean imagine telling your friend to wander off into the woods to see if there's a note on the truck only to hear screams of fright, static down his mic and then he's gone... and you're left to go and investigate. However, relying on your team mates dying to make it scarier... Hmmmm... This could be hit and miss but I like the idea!
