      I am a hobby writer, and allways write short stories or large, chapter-divided, ones. Here is an example of a work I did for a game on a friend: The game was 4 levels large, so I made up this for him:

      Level1:

      Character wakes up. A cute little fairy is looking at him with curiosity.

      Fairy:
      "Oh, you are awake at last!"

      Character confused

      Fairy:
      "There is not much time to talk! Our kingdom is in danger! Please, you hav to defeat the evil besses of very level to get me their precious jewels! The first boss is cloze, go ahead to met him, I will explain all of this later on!

      Secret note 1:
      "When I first met her, she was happy. I remember her smile, also, that glow on her eyes. I never thought she would become something like that. I blame this world for making her that monster! This creatures... This evoironment... And the it became worse since we rcoverd our memories. But I have no time to think about that now. I now gotta go, and finish this."

      Secret Note 2:
      "She is getting weird. Elizabeth, I mean. I oftenly see her talking to herself. Last time she was staring at the ground, as if the ground itself was her mortal enemy. Im getting scared, but I am no better. I am the one writing this diary and keeping it secret from her after all. I wonder, what would happen if she found out my true feelings?

      Before the boss:
      Fairy:
      "Oh you made it!"

      Character angry

      Fairy:
      "Oh dont give me that look! I needed help! This is what is up:
      This world is in great danger! three horrendous creatures want to destroy it, and for that they gathered the 3 controllers!"

      "I guess thats confusing for a human. A controller is something that gives form to this world! As its name says, it CONTROLS everything. It can control you, me, the trees, the floor, everything! But it wonly works if the 3 of them are together! Could you pleeease help me out?"

The only real thing I cannot seem to find in my recently recovered memories from this place is that strange black apparatus we found. The 'controller' I mean, but it made our life so easy, that it made me wonder. If it existed in 'earth' then why can't I rmember any of that. It would be logical to have it, since it is so useful."

      Secret note 4:
      "I can't believe this.... This must be a nightmare.... we are.... dead? Then what is this world? I have no option but to write it down now. Its th only thing that will keep me sane. Elizabeth is worst. She just stopped talking. I am worries, but I cannot talk to her in my current state. I would just end up getting a worst reaction from her. After our hope..... After all that...."
      *This note has water stains all over it*

      Before the second boss:
      Fairy:
      "And here we are! Ready to go?"

      Character agrees

      Fairy:
      "Then off we go!"

      Character question mark

      Fairy:
      "What? My name? Oh yeah, I have not told you! I am E..... *pause* Etrom! The fairy of goodness, fun and joy!"

      Fairy:
      "Oh, that... Well I basically chose you because you are the only one around besides me.... And the others who came failed to accomplish the task, or just refused to help me"

      Character question mark/ gets interrupted, Etrom the fairy eats out the question mark coming from the character's head

We both can ramamber the words, how to talk, how to write, but we cannot remember anything from our homes. This situation is frustrating. But I have to carry on!"

      "I think I loved her. I just remembered beeing husband and wife with Elizabeth. Killing her now will only be more difficult. Fuck me!"

      Before the boss:
      Fairy:
      "We are allmost over! Hell yeah!"

      Character takes one step back

      Fairy:
      "Oh are you ok?

We managed to survive up until now because of a device we found. We named it 'controller' as it can controll anything here, on this world I mean. Sadly, shortly after recovering some her memory, Elizabeth snapped. She stole the controller for me, and started to make chaos all over. She is just taking all her wrath on the world itself, as if it was alive. This note is my final will. To anyone hwo find this, I am probably dead right now. I am going to try to steal the controller from Elizabeth, as she killed the few pople we manage to find on this desert place, crowded with only monsters. mIf I do not manage to do it, I will try to seal her into the only friendly monster we found, Etrom. Etrom cannot use the controller by herself, so as long as Etrom's concsiousness is destroyed, and Elizabeth's takes its place, she wont be able to use it. I will also break up the controller, and if I got any luck, the bosses will hear my request to protect them. To anyon to fing this note, plase do what I could not do. Please kill Etrom, and give my wife's soul a rest in peace."

      "I realized something whn I took the controller in my hands"

      "This angry monsters.... they are all.... feelings"

      "This place might have been once a paradise. A place of those hwo could not have fun, to play for ever in the after life"

      "But th present games only generates hatred among players, making this place dangerous."

      I've sent you an email with a script for the first part of the first level. I know it's different from the concept, but I wanted to change it so it eased the player into it a bit more.

      I read it, and it's pretty good. I like the nonsense that the guy is talking, and actually I wanted to include such stuff in the whole game.
      I forgot to mention this in the concept.
      Since everybody in the game has hallucinations, most of them are permanently in their "own worlds", following their own rules and events,
      while "interacting" with other persons.

      Well, I taught everything I do to myself, too XD. The stuff people teach themselves is usually the stuff they are good in, because they want to learn it.
      The models are looking pretty good imo.
      If you can use blender you can definitely help later on. I was always using milkshape 3D, but the functionality of that program is very limited XD.
      However I'm still working on the basic engine so currently I don't have a demand for any specific models.

      State of development:
      I'm back at the list control XD.

      The project is getting bigger and bigger, much code is hard to debug, especially with dark basic, which has so limited debugging functionality.
      So, I have to write my own.

      The very basic of debugging is to have at least a list of the loaded elements.
      I was using a simple console window until now, but I got some problems with the buffersize, if I write to much text to that console window at
      some point it just stops to use line breaks, which is odd -_-".

      What I need now is the list control and a scrollable text control.

      EDIT:
      I was thinking about a direction for the music.
      The music I really liked was the soundtrack of "Alice: Madness Returns".

      ( I don't know if I'm allowed to post this link here XD )
      I could imagine something like this as main theme :D.

      EDIT2:
      I put the list aside once more XD. The approach is good this time, I'm just reusing the existing controls for the list.
      But it's more work needed to get working like it should, and to be honest I don't really care anymore, since I found
      another solution to use the console I mentioned earlier in a better way. I'm not monitoring everything like before.
      Now I'm just printing the actual error messages ... and therefore it's still good enough.

      I worked on the movement system a bit more, and made it frame independent ( so the movement speed is the same
      with all possible fps-counts ). That's not standard in Dark Basic games, most of them are just capped to a certain fps
      limit to avoid the possbility that they are running too fast. However, I think it's odd to cap the program to 30 or 60 fps
      when the user could achieve even 150 fps.

      Currently I'm working on the input system. I can check if keys and mouse buttons are pressed, but the functionality
      is still very limited. What I want to include is:
      • Check mouse buttons -> click ( absolute standard ) -> Already working
      • Check mouse buttons -> click+hold ( useful to allocate the button for other actions, and quicktime events )
      • Check mouse movement -> certain direction ( useful for quicktime events, wii like controls )
      • Check key -> press ( absolute standard ) -> Already working
      • Check key -> press+hold ( useful to allocate the key for other actions, and quicktime events )
      The development of the input system almost has the pain-in-the-ass-level of the movement system.
      At least I don't need math for that one, just logic, although some people might say that's the same XD.

      Ok then.. I will refresh my blender and 3D Modelling skills a bit with some Blender Tutorials, cause i have forgotten the most i learned :D So that i am able to do my best when it is the time for the modelling. But I am sure it will take a while until you really need me.. So I am staying up to date at least twice every week and you can PM me if you need something special ^^

      EDIT: Re-reading your post, I noticed you use DarkBASIC, I honestly think Unity3d may work better (It has a simple learning curve and can produce some professional results).
      If you are good with 3D-Modelling and Textures ( I guess you meant that with Photoshop ) ... then you have exactly those skills I'm lacking XD.
      Unity3D may be a good idea, well, as I said ... If there is the chance to team up with some people we can choose something else.
      To be honest Dark Basic sucks BIG time ... but it's easy as to use, that's why I was using it until now.

      I should probably write down some of the concepts I thought about so far.

      To be honest, voice acting is one of the last things I would bother with, when creating a game. But voice acting is almost a must-have today.
      So, if you can also do normal voices XD ... I guess that could help, too.

    • Here is the script for the first part of the first level. I don't know if this has been accepted, but grasmann likes it, so i'll see what the rest of you think. please note, I've put in some detailed instructions as a tutorial, and because there wasn't really a layout for the first part.
      I've decided to explain the hallucination sections by having the PC as a depressed psychotic when the game starts. The hallucinations and delusions he has give him some sort of immunity, in that he isn't hallucinating all the time, but he when he does have hallucinations, they are much more stronger than the ones he used to have. Enjoy!

      Act 1- The Infection
      Chapter 1- The Blocks, Protagonists apartment
      (Optional Tutorial)

      (A lot of text here and the instructions get repetitive, I know, but it works as a basic introduction to the mechanics of the game. I’m using the controls from amnesia and penumbra for this, but they can easily be changed to fit other keys.)

      *Protagonist wakes up, gets up out of bed, and yawns. The text ‘Use the mouse to look around’ appear. Once the Protagonist looks around, the text ‘I should put on some clothes’ appears, followed by the text ‘Use [WASD] to move around’. Once the protagonist has moved around for a bit, the text ‘Walk up to the drawer’ appears. The protagonist walks up to the drawers, and the text ‘Click on the drawer with the left mouse button and drag it back with the mouse’ appears. Once the protagonist has done this, the text ‘Click on clothes to put them on’. The protagonist puts on his clothes, and then the text ‘Click on the journal to pick it up’. The protagonist does so, and the text ‘Press [J] to open your journal. Press [N] to see objectives and reminders. Press [M] to see collected to texts and memoirs.’ The Protagonist opens his journal and adds the entry ‘Same old shit’.*

      Same old shit:
      I’ve woken up today feeling better than usual, but the feeling of depression is still there. Dr Anders has prescribed me some anti-depressants, but that’s not all I’m worried about. I’ve been seeing things, things that aren’t there. At first it was in the corner of my eye, glimpses of objects and people that seemed out of place with the crowds and normal buildings, but it’s gotten worse. I keep seeing people watching me from the rooftops, the alleys and the shadows. I see them everywhere I go, and it’s scaring me. Dr Anders says the stress is getting to me, and that it will be gone in a few days. The other alternative, that I might be having a psychotic episode, scares me more than the people watching me. Dr Anders said to keep a journal, to give me something to confide in when she isn’t there, and so she can review my life at home and work, to see if there’s anything causing it. I hope she’s right, and this is just me getting stressed, and that this will all just go away in a while.

      PC: I don’t feel so good. Dr Anders told me to take 2 anti-depressants each morning, to make sure this doesn’t happen.

      *PC walks to the bathroom, and opens medical cabinet*

      *PC takes pills*

      PC: Those should start to kick in later. Now, I should probably get my bag, and go to work. I’ll get some breakfast on the way there.

      *PC walks into living room, and picks up bag. PC walks towards apartment door, and then hears a scream.*

      PC: Shit, was that a scream? Fuck this, I’m not going out now, if somebody’s being murdered in broad daylight. I’m going to wait until I calm down. I’m going to get some water.

      *PC walks into the kitchen. He pours himself a glass of water, and then is about to drink it, when he hears the door being smashed open, and somebody talking to themselves*

      PC: Oh dear god, they’re in my apartment. I knew they were watching me for a reason.

      Infected: (Can’t be heard properly, being in the next room)honey please, you’re hurting me, please stop, no please, I’m sorry, *Screams* NO, NO, NO, NOOOOOO! *The infected can be heard thrashing about, knocking over a table, and the lamp that is on it*

      *PC takes a kitchen knife, and slowly moves away from the doorway to the back of the kitchen. The infected stops thrashing, and moves toward the kitchen*

      Infected: Sweetie, where are you? Daddy’s gone, and he won’t do those bad things to you.

      [Press ctrl to crouch] (This won’t work as the infected will see the PC anyway, but it will increase the tension if the player is trying their hardest to hide)

      *The infected enters the kitchen, and sees the PC.*

      Infected: (While running at the PC) NOOOOOO! You’re ruining her!

      *The PC fights back with the knife, and eventually kills the infected. A few seconds pass, before the PC realises what he has done, and proceeds to vomit in the sink*

      PC: Oh god…oh dear god, what I have done? I need a drink, I feel sick.

      *The PC takes the glass of water, and drinks it. Once he has finished, he breathes heavily a few seconds, and calms down. He turns, and then the corpse of the infected is standing in front of him, and screams. The player backs away, slips and falls, and knocks himself out. He wakes up, and it is night time*

      Not bad, I like it!! There is only one thing that could have been better.. I think the PC doesn't have a real reason to kill or attack this person.. Maybe you could make her opening the door, and whilst she comes in you can see some corpses of dead people in the floor, so that the PC realises that he has to kill her or he will be killed (it would make more sense then attacking a crazy person out of nowhere :D )

      The infected attacks him, not the other way around, I'll remember to add that into the running towards the PC part. He's just trying to defend himself, and ends up killing her without really meaning to.
