I didn't really know of any horror games to suggest but then I remembered a while back I played this one called Haunting Ground (known as Demento in Japan, I believe) and I found it really scary. It's a capcom game played on the PS2.
You play as a girl (Fiona), and after being in a car crash, you wake up in a cage in an old castle. There are 4 main enemies that chase you throughout the game and are out to get you for their own personal reasons.
Your only defense is your new friend, Hewie the German Shepard, other than that, RUN. If you train the dog well enough, he obeys your commands and can do things for Fiona. You do have to solve some puzzles from time to time, and then there are the "boss battles" you have with the 4 main enemies. The goal is to get out of the castle. It also has features like Panic Mode, and has several different endings
It's got a really awesome storyline, complete with cutscenes, and the game gets creepier and creepier as you play. I've googled it and it seems you can torrent the game for PC, or just get it for the PS2 and play it on the PS3 (I think anyway)

Here's some gameplay I found that doesn't give away too much. (sorry the quality is kinda bad in these) You can see a bit of how the dog comes into play, and how being chased by the first enemy goes.

Anyway I hope you think it's a good one, I've played it the whole way through and even though I was almost too afraid to play every time, I found it very enjoyable. I wish I could play it again on hard mode but i sold it like an idiot. I find myself craving to play it again a lot.
