Both Personally though I like atmosphere scares better. Then add a few jumpscares just to be evil :evil: If I had to pick though it would definitely be atmosphere lol. Sorry if it's not very helpful I can't really give a specific reason

If the atmoshphere is creepy and theres also a bit of jumpscares its good. They both get adrenaline flow in your veins so yea thats what horror games are about! :).

There needs to be a good balance for me. If there are too many jumpscares then it just gets dull and you get a game like dead space but if there is too much emphasis on atmospheric scares then it just gets downright boring (which is how I feel about silent hill 3 and amnesia sometimes, amnesia tends to get it right for the most part though). When you get a mix of the two however you get the first two silent hill games which are still two of my favorite games ever.
