Welcome, ladies and gentlemen, bros and broettes.
The Stanley Parable is a
first-person, interactive, story-based mod. You'll need some patience
for this one, as it is narrative-driven, and don't expect awesome
explosions and amazing CG. It's a mod. Also, it's not a horror game, not exactly, but it IS fun. I am very sure that it would also make a great Pewdie series, as it has the exact formula that would put our dear Felix in those situations where he'd either respond to the game in an comically insane way, or in that state of shock where he doesn't know what just happened.
Are you a frequent gamer? Have you tried most game genres, like
first-person shooters, RPGs, and whatever?
Bored of those usual types of games? Want to try something fresh, but
light? Want something to go with your afternoon tea? Well, keep reading.
Otherwise, keep bloody reading.
Do you have Steam? Get it.
Also, are you smart? I should have asked this earlier; otherwise, this
game is going to mind-rape you to confusion. Hopefully, you are.
Why should you play this?
Well, first off, it's free. And quite small in size, too. 42 Mb only. Cute.
Second, it's built on the Half-Life engine, Source. The controls are
simpler than Whac-A-Mole, so you'll start playing straight away.
Third, it's a great mind-twister. You'll finish the game, and whatever
end you'll get, you would be inspired at the very least.
Fourth, as hinted in the previous point, it's multi-ended. Though I am
not sure whether that is actually a word, I know that the game has five
endings, each with their own WTFJUSTHAPPENED surprise.
Fifth, great narration for a great script. Can't think of a smart supporting statement for this, so just take my word for it.
Sixth, it will only take you less than an hour to finish all endings. Yeah I'm serious.
Seventh, stop being a greedy bastard, you already have six points.
The reason why you shouldn't know much about this game is that it is
best that you don't. The least you know, the more enjoyable it is. Do
you want to ruin a potentially great game for a curiousity that is going
to be fulfilled anyway?
If you're not convinced yet, why not download it from moddb.com/mods/the-stanley-par…s/the-stanley-parable-v14 here and check it out? The best things in life are the ones that you meet by chance. Except accidents. Those usually suck.
Oh, you'll also need the Source SDK files, which will download
automatically once you launch the game. It won't take a long time or
anything, oh no.
How to install? Well, there's a readme.txt in
the zipped bundle, but I know you're probably a lazy... well I'm sure Pewdie
wants minimised bad words, so just lazy, and you wouldn't bother. Here's
the important bit:
To install the game, place the folder that
came with this readme (thestanleyparable) in your
steam/steamapps/sourcemods folder. When you restart Steam, it should
appear in your games library. When you launch the game, it should tell
you if there's any additional software that needs to be installed.
Have fun and don't die. It's bad for your health.
PS: Please do not be offended by the language of this post. It's meant to be cynical humour. Have a nice day.
