  • Help With Starting a Gaming Channel

    Hi there, I have a few questions about recording lets plays, and I'm hoping you guys can help me?

    Firstly, I got a new computer, its quite cheap, and I'm wondering if it will be able to handle recording, I don't really have any money, so I don't think I can upgrade it if it can't.

    My specs are as follows;
    Processor: i3 3220 Processor
    RAM: 4GB DDR3 memory
    HDD: 500MB
    and Video: Intel HD graphics.

    I don't really know a lot about recording, so any help would be greatly appreciated, and I plan on recording Sims 3 Lets Plays if possible (I kind of don't want to invest, only to find out my computer can't handle it)

    Dude are you serious? He can have a future on YouTube if he wants, whats stopping him? Maybe his PC specs aren't that great but he can try. Saying stuff like that really pulls people down. Considering that you have such a high reputation on this website it would be nice to show some decency to the users that use it. I wasn't partnered when i started YouTube and i didn't have good Specs either but i kept trying and i got partnered!

  • I say just jump in heads first and see what happens. Sims 3 isn't a very graphic - demanding game, so if you reduce the video graphic details you should be able to pull it off. My old p.o.s. computer had crap specs and managed to run it. Try to find a free recording software and see if you are able to run both programs without crashing before investing money into good software.

    There's no harm in trying, and you won't know if it won't work for sure without doing so! Go for it, don't fear the unknown, and if it doesn't work then at least you tried. Chin up, don't be discouraged. You'll be more upset with yourself if you don't at least try. Also, do it for yourself and just have fun. If it ends up feeling tedious or like a chore, then walk away.

  • Dude its not about graphics its mainly about the pace of the video, You need the get the attention of the audience in the first few seconds of the video otherwise they will turn it off. In saying that your video doesnt need to be on full specs to be entertaining.

    The only think that is stopping your pc from playing new enough games it the graphics card, you can get a used gtx 650 on ebay for 120 euro.

    Id say for now you are better off playing indie games like people above me said, Something like "The Binding of Issac" Really funny and creepy game that will definatelly work on your pc, also Fraps doesn't use that much pc resources so your 4GB ram should be enough.

    PS I have 4GB of Ram and check out my videos(I know I just started making them that why I only have 3).

    Yes but you know that because he has only 4GB of ram, at least 2 will be dedicated towards the GPU which leaves him only 2GB for OS and Rendering his videos and Fraps.
    It also only leave 2GB for the game. It will be very Laggy especially with i3 CPU.

  • Yea, but i don't think that he should encode and record at the same time. It would be enough for lower games like Gameboy Games or older Games. My first recordings where with a old dualcore and 8 GB of Ram and yea it was a bit hard but i could get even Skyrim recorded. The biggest Problem will be that he has not a second HDD to record on

    Yes Definitely I too advice to get a second hdd, like one of those external ones. About 50 quid on ebay and that will speed up your gameplay while recording.

  • There's no problem with it, dude! You can probably make some decent videos at a somewhat nice framerate at 1280x720. Try recording with Fraps and record with Audacity at 48000Hz. I used to use 4gb of RAM to record & edit, and it was just enough for me. Go for at least a GTX650 or higher if you want to make more quality videos in the future. Have fun starting your channel! Maybe we can do a video together sometime ;)
