    So I was browsing Best Buy's website for good deals on desktops with at least halfway decent memory and processors so that I can stop using my cheap Compaq with integrated Intel chipset for gaming, seeing as it really blows for all but the simplest of games. I spent about thirty minutes browsing and specifying what I would like, keeping in mind my budget is very low, so I couldn't really afford anything over $350 unless I want to wait 6 months (Or somehow hit it big in Vegas next week). I narrowed it down to an Asus, since while they seemed to be okay as far as hard drive space, they were cheaper and had better processors and memory than the HPs or Compaqs or etc.

    This is the computer I'm thinking of buying, along with a Belkin N150 Wireless USB adapter (Seeing as I split internet with my downstairs neighbors and it's not possible to run a cable up through the ceiling to my room):

    Would this be suitable for games like Amnesia, the Dark Descent or any of the newer games on at least a low graphic setting? Any and all opinions/help are appreciated greatly.

    EDIT: If necessary or wanted I can just post the specs of the computer from that page, if that would make it easier.

  • My budget wouldn't increase all that dramatically even if I wait the 6 months. It'd go up to around $700 (As every three months I get a certain amount and have part of that to spare).

    Because I didn't know how to put a poll in... Thank you for revealing to me that that is possible. I know that Alienware computers are very good, but they're usually way more than $400 from what I've seen.

    NEVER EVER EVER GO FOR AN AMD PROCESSOR!!!! Seriously though EVERY SINGLE one I have used has burned out in like one year and I have used 2 COMPLETLEY different ones. Maybe it is just my luck but my i7 proccessor lasted longer than the two AMD proccessors did combined... Anywho Alienware's ARE good but if you are going to get one be prepared to pay $3,000 up front then $250 per month for 15 years if you are using a credit account... Go with what karlsanada posted The specs are MUCH better and you wont have to deal with Best Buy's shitty warranty

  • Building my own does certainly look the cheapest with those prices, but I'm scared I'd screw something up putting it together. I've only had a single computer hardware class and that really didn't go in depth on anything. I do have a couple friends who might know how, so I might have to ask them if they'd be willing to help me do that.

    (I'm assuming I'd have to build it myself because on Newegg I didn't see anything about them assembling computers - just selling the parts).

  • @Bijutsu: Well, I'm the one cleaning my PC. The only thing I don't know is how to put mobo in the case and the CPU.

    Newegg has a tutorial on PC though. After putting the mobo, and cpu. It will be easy. Anyway, I forgot to put a PSU on the AMD Llano build I suggested.

    You can get the PSU I suggested on the intel build. but since it's a low power(electricity-wise) build. You can get ANTEC VP450w 80% for $45 I think.
