Swordquest on the atari 2600. It's a game series that you will beat if you collect (in RL) the sword:

Considering that the contest abruptly ended during the fall of atari, this is currently the most difficult game to complete. The fourth game in the series, Airquest, was never released.

The sword is rumored to have been acquired by the guy that bought atari: Jack Tramiel, the father of the commodore.

That sword is the holy grail of video games, and the gamer who acquires it will have completed a 31 year old quest, and have completed a game that's never been beaten.

Touhou

Personally i think there's one on many different genre.

Platformer : Super meatboy
Rpg. : Dark Souls
Bullet Hell. : Touhou (There's a harder one i bet)
Fps. : operation Flashpoint
Fighting. : Tekken (Oh it takes me around 30+ time to beat Jinpachi or something

oh and arma is really difficult for an FPS game... still difficulty is what makes the games good (in my opinion)...

thuhou, defenetly the most hard game I ever played

well i think Super House of The Dead Ninjas #1 on my list then #2 is Rogue Legacy then #3 would be Dark souls.ofcurse these are new modern games if we are talking about old games like NES there are so many of em that are totally unbeatable for all the wrong reasons...you can try that by playing Dead Space 3 on Retro mode ( 1 guy,no check point and if you die you go all the way back to square 1,ammo and life packs are scare and there are tons of enemies there to brutally murder you!).

There is one game where i never got through the first level. "The Adventures of Bayou Billy" on NES. A few friends of me tried it too, they also didnt make it xD
