    • I've been talking to a brick

This is more about commentary styling in itself more than anything. It made me curious if anyone else has tried to do something the same way.

Basically I have been playing The Last of Us, great game and really enjoying my own playthrough of it. Through the journey though I started keeping a brick that was in Joel's possession safe. I talk to it sometimes and what is funny and rather cute is that the viewers have come to accept the brick as if a living being.

The brick doesn't talk, it just sits in Joel's hand when I pull it out of the bag. He holds it in a way that gives the brick a certain position that would be fitting to an onscreen character. Whenever I do commentary I try to think of new ways to make the experience different and for The Last of Us I chose...a brick.

I think it is one of my most proud commentary moments. A playthrough where a possibly insane gamer tries to build some form of a friendship...with a brick.

This made me wonder though...have you ever tried to make a character out of nothing yourself? and in doing so...have you been able to make your audience believe that the character exists and plays a role in this world?

    • I always consider doing it with a lot of things, when I run out of things to say in the current situation. It defiantly adds a sense of humour, if not overdone or used as a blatant copy of someone else's 'inanimate friend' (e.g with Stephano, I've seen people try to give the statue other names) , which is what I try to aim for.
I'm an overly sized pickle with a tendency to play video games :D Come on over and view me up on the Youtubes, if you wanna, it would be appreciated:

It's only overdone if you don't make it your own thing like for my Bioshock Infinite LP I did individual voice acting for the vigors. I bring this conversation up in many forums and people seem to just reference Felix instead of themselves, so if anyone has their own personal experiences with commentary like this please share :)

    • Well, wowee. I'm not an LP-Er whatsoever but i in a mattervof fact talked to a reasonable amount of inanimate object when playing a video games. And personally it's a pretty neat idea to break the ice. I swear i talked to a torch before. It goes like

"So where the hell are we going to be exact?"
"Don't fucking ask me i'm a motherfucking torch"
      "Kay."

Just don't get carried away and name every single object available in that game.

If you're angry, don't break anybody's heart, they only have one..... Break their bones, they have 206 of them

I have never actually created voices, but in my opinion that is a great way to develop the sense of a personality, and yeah, that's what I meant about overdoing it. Keep it personal and original

well it depends, if you do it with something familiar that pewdie use like barrels, or if you do it with something that no body use it but all the time, all the video, the original goes to hell
