  • Would this be a good idea?

Hello everyone, I was thinking about adding a new feature to my youtube channel and I would like to pick your brains about it. Do you think it would be a good idea, why yes, why no?

Basically I was thinking of going online searching for some sign language forum and finding someone to translate my videos in sign language. Then when I upload a video it would have a watermark in a corner with the guy/gal doing sign language on everything I say.

I remember the outcry from the community when Assassins Creed 1 came out and it had no subtitles so I'm thinking why should hearing challenged(think thats the political correct way of saying it) people be excluded from gaming channels such as mine?
Now lets take a look at some of the pros and cons of doing this:

    Pros:
    - it would make some people happy
    - I'd feel good about myself doing it(selfish pro I know, but hey a pro nontheless)

    Cons:
    - it would delay the video coming out(This doesn't really matter to me much at the moment but when you do stuff like first looks if your channel gets bigger/popular it can become quite important to get your video out as soon as possible after the game has been released/NDA has been lifted; because if everyone watches the first look/review/gameplay/etc. of the game on other channels first, they aren't gonna watch yours)
    - might this annoy people who aren't hearing challenged?

Sorry for the long post, but I really hope you read all of it and give me your opinion on this. What pros and cons can you think of, what do you think of the pros and cons that I mentioned? And any other thoughts/advice would be most welcome.
    Thank you very much guys.

  • Well, one thing that you will learn about me, if you haven't figured that out already is that I have a knack for overcomplicating things... ^^
I suppose subtitles could work, just thought my idea would be nicer. And yes I know you don't HAVE to have hearing problems, I was just thinking specifically about that demografic at the time.
    Any other thoughts guys?

  • Face cams are one thing but I think having someone doing sign will take up too much of your screen and will get annoying to your viewers. This is especially so with games that put the UI on certain corners of the screen.

If your person is blocking that then the viewer misses out on information. Also it is flipping annoying watching those people do it on TV. I get the application for it on television but it just seems like an effort when you can just use subtitles.

Just remember that people will want a cut of everything you do if you ask them to do sign because you make money off your channel. Just do subs. It is easy and most of all it is free.
There is always time for muffins.
  • I personally think that a person doing sign language is too much .. It would take quite a lot of space on screen .. and if you have facecam, well even more space needed .. which means, less space to show the game, and that's the important part ... Subtitles are enough .. Don't complicate ..

I bet you can't click that dancin' Buu

I totally agree, Subtitles are more than sufficient.
