Blue Snowball and Blue Yeti are both really good mics. I personally use the Blue Snowball because when I needed to buy a new mic (because my old one broke), I didn't have enough money for the Yeti. Snowball's quite a bit cheaper, but they're both really good.

Get the Zalman mic. If you have a
good line/mic-in, you'll be surprised with how clear your
voice sounds. It's better than any sub-$100 headset mic I've used.

Audio Technica makes some good microphones, but they aren't cheap. I believe the can be mounted as well.

As many have said already, Blue Yeti, I've ordered one for myself :3

I watched A LOOOT of HDStarcraft videos in the past and found out that he was using the Audiotechnica AT2020 mic.. ordered the USB one and been with it for years now, really really good microphone I think even pewds uses it looks like that.
So if you can, deffinetly get that.

I've recently been looking at cheap microphones and plan to purchase. Although I'm interested in peoples opinions and what they like.
I found the ATR2500 mic, and it's pretty much "the little bro" of the at2020, just different designs. Another one was the Samson C01U, but costs a little more. I also saw an M-Audio avid for $55 and that seems decent.
I can't decide between the ATR2500 and the M-Audio Avid x).

I am personally a huge fan of the Zoom H4n, due to it's multipurpose abilities. Many YouTubers use the Zoom for video recordings off-computer, because of how easily it can be attached to a DSLR's hotshoe. It also has some impressive audio processing, leaving any recording with some incredible sound. I personally have this microphone set up with a boom-like tripod,and I have absolutely no complaints regarding the audio quality, it is incredible. As far as a filter, I use a simple wind cover that came with the device. It works quite well in recordings, and in any sort of audio-chat scenario (I use this mic for TeamSpeak).

I did quite a bit of research on this microphone, and I have never had any issues with it.
