So how did you get your first 100 subs on youtube?

Well I started let's plays when they weren't THAT popular. I somehow managed it to get 350 subscribers as an 12 years old. Sadly I deleted the channel cause I didnt want anyone to hear that voice.

Oh man, that was a long time ago and not on my gaming channel.
I started posting on youtube back in 2008 some random stuff, which I later deleted. In 2009 I uploaded my first well... something created in FL Studio, first songs usually aren't the best but it was a start. And it's still on youtube (I don't like deleting old stuff, makes for a good "look in my own past" moment)
I believe I hit 100subs on that channel 4 years ago (didn't grow much since, but that's mainly because I am not focusing on mmusic as much anymore. I still create something now and than, just because I like doing it, but I don't see myself as a professional trance producer). But my music and my knowledge got me to a nice youtube place called "Kybernauts", back than the biggest Czech channel was reaching 40K subs and this one had 8K, it was HUGE for me. I was suposted to create FL Studio tutorials there, but it was focused on Gaming & Let's Plays mainly so I did my first let's play series there. shortly after that I created my own gaming channel and it grew quickly, I believe I got 300 subs in the first day or so. 1K didn't take so long neithe, today I am at 22K there, which would probably be barely enough to make a living out of if these subscribers were out of my Czech region but like this, it's just something I can buy 1 game every month.
I still love doing it, just wish I had more time lately, actually have to look for job in the webdesigner area preferably, so I don't upload as much as I'd like, that's why I wish I could live out of youtube but I don't see it happening any time soon. -
Took 6 months to get to 100 subs, I don't really care about subs that much (Its not like i'm ungrateful or anything, its just not a primary goal to gain tons of subs) I'm at 205 now XD and I'm 8 -9 months in
Oh and how? I made videos, put tags in, people searched them, some subbed. A good 30 of my subs are people who know me IRL though :p and another 15 or so are people who I know from playing on GMOD servers and being a Moderator on TTT for some time. Sadly the server shut down
I mainly do youtube for fun, and it's actually helping me to complete games for once. I don't advertise myself at all, maybe if I did I would have more subs. But all I care about is that im enjoying my life______________________________________________________________________________________________

Took me two weeks to hit my first hundred, and to me I think it was only two groups of people. Close friends and family, and other Youtubers trying to use me to self-promote. It wasn't until after that first hundred that I started to see a dedicated fan base start to show up.

I worked two channels with friends. One was for podcasts where interviewed Independent game developers and the other was for convention coverage and early access game reviews.
i just recently started my own solo channel and I have only just hit 43 subs.
Tags don't seem to wok on YouTube it seems, in reference to Ken on the latest BroKen podcast and other than befriending an already established YouTuber or spamming Twitter, google plus, comment pages or otherwise seems to be the only place to get you known. Even in this forum you're told not to advertise your channel. -

I'm not there yet, but I did get to learn a lot of helpful advice through this thread. I'm trying learn how I can utilize Social Media in order to gain a bit of traction on my channel but truthfully, I'm not doing it for the subscribers, as much as I'm doing it for the productiveness. Not to mention that it's really fun : ) Not to mention the fact that I don't want to bombard my friends/families with my youtube videos. Yeah I get that they're for support, but there's only so much they're willing to take, which is something some of my friends don't get lol
