I'm not sure how to answer this. You don't know how to move your router? It is as simple as unplugging it and moving it closer to your computer, that should work.

If this is wireless, then distance would effect the connection, if it's wired, then it wouldn't. Also, moving the router would require a lot of cables being moved, and it depends where your phone line is located aswell.

Stay the modem near the phone since it's a must(shortcablescoughcough) then put the router upstairs but you must buy a long, very long ethernet cable(this is the one we used). It's either you clipped them on the wall so they won't be annoying.XD
