  • Screen Recorder Suggestions

I'm looking for a screen recorder so i can record gameplay footage, i'm looking to record Black Mesa Source on steam, so far i've had no luck with BB Flashplayer Express and PC Hand Screen Recorder, the game just gets recorded as a black screen.

The screen recorder must be free and needs to be able to record from onboard graphics cos i don't have a graphics card, also needs to be relatively light cos i don't have a high spec pc.

    thanks in advance bro's

  • difficult...

i recorded with fraps or dxtory. but they're not free. i dont think this would work anyway... if your computer havent got a graphics card then i dont think you can record your games properly! in the end your video will lagg no matter what you try. you should wait until you can afford the money for a good gaming PC! Sorry for destroying your idea!

(PS.: Sorry for my bad english...)
  • i thought this would be the case, my pc was never originally intended for gaming, it only just copes with Black Mesa Source, lags like crazy when anything detailed like smoke appears. I'm thinking of getting a graphics card but i can't see much point if the rest of my hardware can't cope.

at the moment i'm running on:
    Pentium Dual Core E2200 @ 2.2GHz
    4GB DDR2 RAM
    Integrated Intel GMA 4500

I'm looking at getting an Asus HD6450 1GB Silence Low Profile graphics card.

  • It's a Dell Optiplex 760 (small form factor) i would say it's about 4 years old maybe 5 at most. It's capable of recording smoothly with BB Flashback Express but as soon as it loads up Black Mesa Source the recording goes blank, tried every setting but nothing has worked so i guess i either need to get a graphics card or give up. I'm not planning on playing any high spec games, Black Mesa Source is about as high as i would go, my pc is perfect for what i use it for, only reason i play Black Mesa on it is cos it's the only platform it's on, i was amazed my pc could even play it with integrated graphics.

  • then i've got a question for you:
do you really want to buy a new graphics card just to record one game (and im still not sure if a new graphics card alone would help you)?
if you dont plan to pay at least 200€ for a new one, then you should play it with your system and just dont record it.
recording programs usually dont need just a good graphics card. they need a good CPU and at least 4GB DDR3 RAM...

You'll need money... i know what im talking about, i bought a new Gaming-PC last week.
  • i originally wanted a graphics card that would smooth out my pc's performance, freeing up the cpu usage and ram that is being used up as virtual graphics memory, screen recording is a recent idea of mine but not essential. At the moment i'm running 64MB of virtual graphics memory so i play Black mesa on lowest spec and at times it struggles at that, so the 1GB HD6450 graphics card should allow me to play the game to it's full potential but as i can see it won't let me try out screen recording, my system spec is adequate enough to run this game at least apart from graphics, my cpu barely struggles at all except for when high rendering is required such as smoke which should smooth out with a 1GB card surely?

  • well... im not saying that a new graphics card wouldnt help you to improve your PCs performance, BUT i can not guarantee that it will run on the highest graphics settings.
no, i wont guarantee for anything. i had a system like yours a couple of years ago and had my problems with it...

But it wouldnt be wrong to buy a new graphics card, but then i would recommend a nvidia and not ATI.
  • thanks for the help bro, i've read so much random rubbish off the internet saying completely stupid or irrelevant information, nice to have someone who actually knows what they're on about. Think i'll keep to what i've got, graphics aren't everything and the game is amazing no matter what level of detail. At least this will save me from wasting money on something that probably wouldn't have worked. I'll look out for a cheap nvidia graphics card just to smooth out my performance rather than get the game to work at full power.

    Thanks bro, really appreciate it
