  • A Gaming Laptop?

Hello bros, I need some expert help around here!

So, I own a laptop right now which is HELLA old (like 6+ years, integrated graphics, ew) and I'm looking for a new PC. Seeing as I'm a student I thought I'd get a laptop! But I want to game on it, like a casual gamer - nothing extremely serious which requires and alienware or some other overrated laptop. I realize that a desktop will be a lot more cheaper and a lot more better for this purpose, but.. as I said, portability is a issue. Some of you may say "get a cheap laptop, and a gaming desktop". I considered that, but no - please, I want to try my best for a good gaming laptop. I've also heard now gaming laptops are coming into the picture nicely because of improving tech.

I'm not technically unsound, I'm actually pretty good - but I didn't keep track of stuff like good graphics cards and stuff - so I'll need your suggestions with good brands and stuff! I'm from India, and my budget must be enough to a mid-high range laptop (hopefully!)...

Basically, ~4GB RAM should be enough, and as far as I know laptops aren't as easy to "build" as a desktop. So I'd have to go with an "already built" laptop. But still. So 4GB of RAM should be enough... For the processor, I think it'd have to be a quad-core .. like most definitely? I don't know. For a graphics card, as for as my research goes, NVidia cards would be a LOT better than AMD.

I'd hope to run all the current/recent games, Skyrim, Assassins' Creed, etc. etc. on good graphics with no lag. So I'll leave the suggestions for you guys. If you want to know anything else, ask away!

    Again - thanks bros.

    Basically

  • Hey.

Since you said a Gaming Laptop, immediately Alienware popped into my head. Its for intense gamers (I think) Its pricey though. And since you said you're a student I'm not sure if it has stuff like Word ect. If your trying for light gaming maybe you could just look for a Windows laptop. Or if you really want the best make , Macbook Pro, those are very pricey though. So I think your best bet would be a Windows 8 Laptop. Sorry I can't give you much links, but I'll try.

    alienware.co.uk/
    apple.com/
I'm pretty sure Windows are everywhere, so they shouldn't be too hard to find. Windows 8 is the most recent one, but Windows 7 is just as good.

    Hope I could help :)

I'm sorry I should have said this earlier. I don't want a Mac. NEVER. XD

Also, Win8 isn't something I like a lot but that isn't a problem at all. Like I said in the OP though I do not want alienware! :(

  • Hello. There isn't such thing as gaming laptop or only the expencive ones. There is a few reasons why not.
1.The cpu's and the gpu's are mobile. This mean that they are not so good and powerfull like comapre to the desktop ones.So you see i5 or i7 and u think is good but the truth is another. You need to look some benchamarsk first before u buy a laptop. To be sure what he can handle.
2.The gpu's are the same story.Mobile and not so good. The cheapest are with ddr3.You need at least 128bit ddr5 and again look how it goes into games that u ll like to play.
3.The small room that laptop have and its very hard to be cooled. And they mostly overheating if there isnt good cooling system. For example u can buy cooling pad for it or i think u can put some fans.Other important think is to clean them from dust and change the termo paste(Im not sure about that for the laptops)
So first u need to tell me your max budget. And some online store's that are in your country. And i will see what is the best solution :)

  • Well, I use Packard-Bell TK-81 and it's pretty amazing. Reasonable price , only thing is that re-installing windows might be hard (cause of the drivers) and you'll need to re-pasta the cooler stuff on the motherboard. Once done with that, you're good to go. Handles new games pretty well , good for gaming and editing stuff as well. Ps.: Skyrim can run on high settings with 20-24 fps average (not bad for a not sickly expensive laptop) and mass effect 3 as well. It was not a bad decision for me.

Hey - I disagree with you there. Casual gaming on laptop has certainly evolved and I believe people can play games on the laptop as well. Like I said, I'm not a super-serious gamer, just a casual gamer! I know that desktops are a lot A LOT better than laptops, but still!

I really didn't give numbers because there IS a price difference of a thing bought here and a thing bought in some other country. But my budget should be around 50K rupees (925.58 USD).

Every popular brand has an indian version of their sites - but I don't know what's the best. I already told you what I look to play in the OP - I need to be able to play all the current games fluently. That's all.

Hey! Thanks for the nice reply, I looked into that - but sites popped in languages I don't understand *confused* XD

Reinstalling windows or anything really really isn't a problem, what I want is an affordable laptop which I can do casual gaming on!

You didn't even put your budget above. How much money do you earn? $100 - $200? $500 - $ 750? What?

I believe you didn't look in the post right above the one you quoted that from, bro. I don't work, I'm a student. Therefore, I don't earn. My budget roughs around 950 like I said in the previous post, and you can give or take a few. Also, like I said - pricing is different in every country. What's cheap there, might not be cheap here. Hence the reason I didn't state the budget in the OP.

Pfft , you can get an uber gaming laptop for the price of the Razer Blade , the blade is quite overpriced xD

Hmm.. okay $950 right? I just found a mid-range gaming laptop for less than $750 for you but I found 3 cool laptops. So I did is to compare and let you choose what's the best for you. Click Here to See those 3 awesome laptops I said earlier. If it isn't enough just reply at me and I'll choose a laptop cost below $950. And don't buy in your country just buy it on the internet so no problems.

That is the problem - I can't buy online ... Shipping will take forever haha. XD But cool! That's really something I have been looking for.

Sounds nice, any more laptops like that? 6GB actually seems like a lot, haha. For most 4GB RAM is enough, but more is always better so meh. But it'd be really appreciated if you can come up with some similar laptops like that, and I'll see if they're available in my country. Thanks a lot bro *brofist*

Here's what you wanna get for a laptop:

An i7 Ivy bridge and a GTX 670m. This will cost roughly @ $2000 though.

This card looks like it'll be able to play AC3 great with high settings! Whoa. :) Thanks a lot for this suggestion, bro. I'll look into it, don't think I can find it here though haha!

Looked and I did not find G75VX but I found this! in.asus.com/Notebooks/Gaming_P…use/G75VW/#specifications.
I guess "W" is right behind the "X" version (it's just a guess!)... But guess what - ding ding. The price is 129000. That's past double my budget T_T!~ Sorry bro.

^ This, it's a good and not that expensive laptop, judging from the specification.

It's so-so in the benchmarks, let me check on that laptop. :)
Hoho, so I found a very similar version for me in the same series as that one... acer.co.in/ac/en/IN/content/series/aspirev3
But it's not quite what I'm looking for I guess... Hmm thanks anyway!
