I think you should buy at least 8 ram memory, not sure about the motherboard, but having enough ram is a requirement if you want to play high end games.

Graphic card wise, the 660 ti is a good one or the 7950 / 7970.

With this old system better to buy a new one on S1155 with intel,instead of buying only gpu now.Cause your cpu is not so good for the new games.U can sell this pc and add some more cash and we can build a new very good pc.For example i build a pc for me before 3 months with intel g630 cpu and gtx 650 OC.They are cheap cause i dont have a lot of many but its really ok for me.I play on old monitor 1280-1024 so its good.Some games at very high settings or medium like crysis 3.With at least 30-40fps.
If u cant change the all system at once and only a few parts u need to buy mobo,cpu and ram.For cpu i can suggest you g2020 and hd7770 or if u ll have more money u can go for i5+7850 2gb ddr5 256bit.If u ll play at full hd-1920-1080 beter go for 2x4gb 1600mhz ram kit.But if u ll play at lower res 4gb is enough.
So my suggestion now is to save your money and buy a new one instead of buying parts for this old socket 775.
There is an another alternitive.U can buy mobo,cpu,ram and sell the gpu now cause i think after months or a year the price will be lower so now u can take more money for selling it.

You'll bottleneck your gpu because of your old school CPU.

What's your powersupply? It MUST NOT be generic. It should be a high-end one.

I agree with pepel, upgrade your motherboard and cpu first and your ram.

Your motherboard doesn't support PCIE 3.0 cards. Even if you can plug it in, you'll only be using 50% of its potential.

I think the smaller stuff should be fixed before getting a new graphics card, such as the memory, you need as much as that as you can!
Then move on to that kind of stuff

It's because of the motherboard, it lacks the PCIE 3.0 or even PCIE 2.0. Even if you buy a PCIE 1.0 card, you won't get the best out of it.

If you're still gonna buy a gpu.

Get a GTX 650 Ti. It's a budget gpu.

Those people are enthusiast. Trust me, I have a dinosaur laptop and playing NBA 2k11 @ 11-20FPS and for me, it's really smooth. Not until I got a PC who can max it and play it with 60FPS fixed. You'll perspective will change once you get used to it. I've got worse specs than you.xD

Anyways, GTX 460, might want to consider that. Pewds is using this card and it's really powerful but it consumes a lot of power so I suggest that you know what your PSU is.
