  • [Suggestion] Shoutbox is too small! How 'bout Chatzy?

    Hello!
I know I'm a new bro here but I've been chatting on shoutbox for a few hours now and it seems to get laggy when there's too many people.
I was wondering if someone wouldn be interested in creating a chatroom on Chatzy! It's great and free~
Just a suggestion. I'm sorry, if someone had posted this idea already. I'll delete the thread if it's necessary.

    Chip

    ----EDIT----

Okay then, if someone's interested here's the link: chatzy.com/ Simple as that.
I'm using this site with a few friends o' mine. I hope it'll become useful for some of you too. :)
Why to stay in my tiny box when the big world awaits?

  • i agree. i feel like the shoutbox is being used more like a chatbox, maybe a "real" chat could be created to clean the shoutbox and let admins and mods use it for announcements: at least that's what i usually see on forums.

edit: with chatbox i was thinking of some sort of chat made in java, things like that. we already have a "chat box" in OT

Not to be rude, Shikieiki, but you might want to post a reason behind your comment, as opposed to more or less saying "No. Use this."

My reason is that people can use Teamspeak. We have it for a reason.
Allow me to put it this way. In what manner is having a Chatzy program detrimental. I'm not arguing one way or another, but I'd like to see viable points made. I apologize if this seems out of line, but I'd rather a potential option not be eliminated so quickly for what seems like no reason besides "We have this instead." Yes, we have Teamspeak, but look at how many people are on that, and how many are on the shoutbox. It's fairly apparent that people just like the shoutbox more. Be that because of the IM nature of it or its accessibility, I don't know. While I agree that teamspeak would be nice, from what I've heard and my own experiences, it's not used particularly often. As you can tell, I'm new to this site, so maybe it's just a low point for TS, but judging from the number of people in the shoutbox, this site isn't lacking in visitors.

What he was trying to say is that people can use whatever the hell they want, but there is a TeamSpeak server, which is being paid for and wasted, because people are too lazy to download it and simply enter an IP. You can chat and talk there with your microhpone, yet you want to spend the time to go onto an unpaid program/website (no clue) that I believe would be rarely used by anyone here.

The fact that the teamspeak server is going unused should not be a reason to close off other options. It's being unused for a reason. If people want to meet someone new, they use an IM program. If they feel like speaking, they use Skype. Teamspeak has, in my experiences, always been in an awkward place, since in order to have enough people to speak with someone new, it's too crowded to hear anyone. If you want to actually have a conversation, you're kinda left in the dust.

I don't know whether or not Chatzy would solve the problem. It very well might experience the exact same issues as the shoutbox. You cannot, however, convince me that the shoutbox is working without issue when it is fairly difficult to see any conversation in there whatsoever. It's dominated by 2 or 3 people who are just speaking quickly, and any actual conversation gets drown out. Perhaps it requires better moderation in order to keep people from spamming incessantly, or perhaps it's just a really weird day. Either way, it's not working as intended (or at least I assume this wasn't how how the site developer planned for this to go), and it should be fixed.
  • 1. Yes , we have teamspeak. 2. Some of you complaining, just joined our community , therefore most of us (or at least I ) can't take it seriously.
    3. Shoutbox worked so far for us. 4. Still haven't downloaded teamspeak? Disappointing.
    5. If you'll be here in a month, and after the wave, you'll realize that our shoutbox is just fine.
<--- Oh, you hate me son?
  • Besides, it depends on the time of the day. In my timezone, at morning-noon, the shoutbox is pretty much dead and has no lag, you can freely chat with 1 or 2 people about whatever you want. In evenings, there are usually more people, and thats when the shoutbox can get glitchy. But Chatzy is just meh, if you want a real conversation without lag, you should really get TS then. Shoutbox isn't always the best place to chat (since ~a few people have a below average IQ).
  • Alright, so since the wave of people arose, there have been a lot of complaints about people spazzing out and so fourth as well as the fact that there are some 'lags' coming about.
Give it a week or two, and then if it's still being a bit laggy, then we'll worry about it. c:
For the most part, it's because a lot of people are here on the site, attempting to make contact with Pewdie and whatnot. So in reality, it's kinda like a crowded subway, there's a ton of people and they're all pushing into the tiny tram, so of course it'll be a bit before all the data gets sent through.

Anyways, for the most part, I think that in a week it'll be back to it's normal small self, and it will once again, lay in ruin. Kidding.

For the time being, I'd recommend getting TS, like some of my friends have stated, PMing them on here, or downloading skype. One of those three will solve the problem for sure. <3

    Don't worry about it. c:

  • I've never really noticed any lag with the chatbox to be honest, but I've only used this forum for a couple days so I assume you guys know more about it then me. I wouldn't mind a different take on it. TS available, but as I know people (including myself) are just too lazy to use it lol.
  • I personally dislike Chatzy for a couple of reasons, but I will refrain from posting them all in this topic since there is no need for it.
From the technological aspect this is the best way to go because it is the most simple one, and also the most consumer friendly one as it is easy to access and use. The lags are simply caused by our fight with achievement performance, which should be ended now however. Reason for the lack of performance is that our achievement system uses big cache files which need to be rewritten rather often, slowing site processes down - this is the case since the cache files are a couple of megabytes big. Solution for this problem is to put the cache files on our RAM, which has better read and write speeds - you'll still notice a slight delay compared to the site without it, but it's not too much and therefor fine.
