Connection question

So this is a pretty dumb question, but I'll ask it anyways.

I have broadband Internet connected to a modem that is connected to a router. (Standard set up right?)

Well, I have all of that in the next room, but I use wi-fi for my connection on my laptop.

When I record vids and edit/upload them, they take a very long time.

My question is, if I connect directly to the router using and Ethernet cable, will my upload speed increase?

Dunno, I'm using a modem too, but it's downstairs, in the living room. My only connection with it is a USB wireless adapter, yet I still manage to get good speed. But, I believe what Vicsyyy said is true.

I was just researching on how to increase my speeds and someone gave me a DNS address to use that's better than the one I have provided. As soon as I changed it my upload time flew by.

Use google DNS:
8.8.8.8
8.8.4.4

yes They will speed up a lot because you are using internet connection directly

NO!

Unless your broadband connection is faster than your wireless router connection, which i highly doubt since most wifi routers are at least 54Mbps.
You could of course make a speed-test in different locations to see if that is the bottleneck.
About DNS, that can only improve the speed that domains are converted to ip's, so once the down- or upload begins you would see no change in speed.

I would say unless you have something blocking the signal in the room, switching to ethernet would offer no speed improvement.

Not really. Do you have someone who's also using your internet? How fast is your speed?

Try it out there, close all tabs and everything that can affect your internet speed. Post the results here.

If you use an ethernet cable. The modem will just prioritize your PC than those who have wi-fi.:)

Dual-band router just makes your connection have wider coverage I believe. Anyway, are you the only one who use your connection?

The thing is that if something disturbs the signal it will go slower with wifi so i would go for cable while uploading

If something disturbs the signal you should just change location? In an ideal setup cable should never improve internet speed.

Well I ran a speed test and it's DL Speed:32.22mps and UL Speed:11.89 mps

Bad?

No, that's pretty fast. Your connection is not the problem, unless you want to upload more than 1mb per second.

Well like I said. Earlier I was uploading a video. I use a program called "Screenflow" It's editing/sharing/recording all in one. Well usually it will have an exporting time(which varies between an hour to 20 minutes) and an uploading time(which usually takes an hour or more). The exporting took the normal time but the uploading was saying like 3 hours. It was taking forever. That is when I posted this thread and was looking online and people were saying to change your dns number and I did and it was blazing fast afterwards so now I'm really not having any problems lol. Thanks guys.
