  • Garry's Mod Voice Chat not working

    Sup Bros,
I recently got Gmod and am digging the deathrun mode. Everybody is using Voice Chat, and so I wanted to do it too.
My Player Name shows up but nobody hears what I am saying. I need help, please. (I know I have to hold down X when talking).

I have a Creative Sound Blaster THX Tactic3d Alpha USB Headset.

I hope you can help me with my problem.

    Thanks in Advance,

  • Make sure your microphone is the one selected in the voice chat settings, and make sure it's plugged in right and not muted.

    Then get back to me.
"I've begun my voyage in a paper boat without a bottom; I will fly to the moon in it."
"When this paper aeroplane leaves the cliff edge, and carves parallel vapour trails in the dark, we will come together."
  • My Mic is plugged in right, not muted and selected in the voice settings. Maybe I should mention it has an external sound card (the USB Headset).

I also realized that my mic only doesn't work INGAME. Also in other games it doesn't work. If I use it in Audacity or Skype however everything works fine.

    Any more tips?

  • Can't really tell you anything else but to Google it, since the time I used an external sound card it all worked for me.

You could look at your drivers to see if everything is up to date.

  • Check that your microphone that is being used is set as Default device and Default communication device. This can be achieved by going into control panel in windows (press the windows key, it will be on the right side of the window that pops up) clicking on "Hardware and sound" then clicking on "Sound". This will bring up the sound window, click on the "Recording" tab and then right click on the microphone you are using (if you have multiple then perhaps its best to unplug and rather use one). There will also be sound controllers under the recording tab, ignore them for now. Once you have right clicked on the microphone there will be a drop down box, check if you can see the words Default device and Default communication device and make sure they have a tick next to them on the left. If you cant see the words then its most likely that the device is already set as Default, if this is the case, simply right click on a sound controller under the "recording" tab and make it your default device and Default communication device, then right click on your microphone again and set it back to default the way I explained before. This is to make sure that windows has in fact registered with all other programs that it is the default device, sometimes its listed as default but it doesn't work until you have reset it to default. Sound controllers have names like "Stereo Mix" and the microphone will be listed under the name "Microphone".

Try and see if that helps.
