[PETITION] Sign the petition against the new 2013 YouTube design

    • What's... wrong with it?

It's a good design, the only reason anyone is moaning is because it's not what they're used to. It utilises space well, it's very clean and pleasing on the eye, and gives you access to plenty of menu options without being cluttered. Google's designers are professionals, they know what they're doing.

Just because the design is professionaly made doesn't make them good for the people that use it. *Signed*

Well the reason is because some people have put a lot of hard work into backgrounds and things for there channel and some people also have a business to make them for people. Now that has been wasted as they have replaced it with a stupid banner......And being a professional doesn't mean anything.

You can't customise it, therefore making all the backgrounds that were made go to waste.

colonel, we managed to avoid drowning!

Google designers and professional? Thats the biggest joke I have heard as they are more the opposite. And no , they don't know what they are doing.

      From the same 'professionals'.

The only issue with that design is that it's not centred. It is fit for purpose, to show search results, etc, in a clean and easy to read way. And yes, professional, they don't hire any old Joe off the street, these people are professional designers with years of experience in the field. The iJustine page shown in the OP actually shows that they are making considerably more use of space than they used to, which is great.

As for customisation, honestly I'm not entirely sure it's a bad thing, a rather large number of channels look terrible because of said customisation features. Do remember it is also in beta, it's likely more customisation features are on their way.

Why couldn't they include an option to switch to whatever version you want?

Because that would require managing quite a lot of designs, ensuring that each small change is compatible with all of them, etc.

Remember all: Youtube is a free service, you are not entitled to these features that are provided absolutely free. People use a free service to make money from their channels, if you choose to use a free service and therefore one you are not a main stakeholder in so be it, but you always have to be aware of the fact that you cannot make them do anything as you are not a customer.

In regards to the petition, last I checked 6,500 people were a very, very small minority relative to the size of Youtube, so they really shouldn't be saying they speak on behalf of the majority.

    • I'm really uncaring about the design. What I would love though is if they could get rid of the side bar ads! They really screw up the videos I'm watching. I don't mind sitting through one or two commercials in the vid itself, but littering the whole page with ads is driving me insane!
