I was really surprised no one had suggested this one already! DQVIII's one of the PS2 classics after all!
Dragon Quest VIII - The Journey of the Cursed King is a japanese RPG game with cel-shaded graphics (don't compare them to Ni No Kuni, at the time the game was released it was a mind-blower) and the art has been done by Akira Toriyama (same as in Dragon Ball) giving the game a very personal look. The battle system is turn-based, like an old-school RPG should have, and the experience level system allows you to decide what kind of abilities you would like to learn. Storywise, Dragon Quest VIII follows the silent Hero, the main character, and his party of allies as they journey towards the goal of defeating the wicked Dhoulmagus. The kingdom of Trodain has been cursed by Dhoulmagus, with the King, Trode, and his daughter, Medea, transformed into a troll and a horse respectively, and it is up to the Hero to return them to their original form and save the kingdom.
You can find the game from good game stores, and definitely online stores. It's an old one already, so be prepared for a cheap price.

DQVIII features:
AN ULTIMATE BARREL DESTRUCTION MODE:
Stacked protagonists:
GAMBLING AT THE CASINO:
And the best way of transportation on the planet ON A DERPY SABERCAT:
All in all, DQVIII is a very fun and impressing game. The story has a big role in the game, but so does the actual gameplay, free roaming and side quests. Everything is well-balanced - the game is really long, but hey, if it's a good game, that's just a good thing, right?
Definitely recommended for Pewdie and all the bros out there who haven't given this a shot!
