    • Palette (Indie adventure 2D game)

      Info :
Palette is a freeware adventure game by Yoshitaka Nishida (Finger Puppet) made in RPG Maker 95.
One night, the psychiatrist Sianos B. Sian is requested to counsel a girl called B.D., who has lost her eyesight and memory in an accident.
Through conversations with her over the phone, the past that hides in her memories comes to light…
Palette was created in 1998 and won the grand prize in a competition held by the creators of RPG Maker.
Enterbrain even remade it for the Playstation in 2001

Some other warnings to avoid disappointment:
      Display Spoiler
      - This is not meant to be a horror game. Not sure I’d call it one even by a loose definition that includes Yume Nikki (i.e. it’s horror because parts of it are creepy).

      - Speaking of Yume Nikki, while some comparisons could be made, there’s a big difference in that Palette is very plot-centered with actual dialogue. However, it tells its story in a rather unique way that happens to give it some of Yume Nikki’s maze-like quality.

      - Yes, I said maze-like. MAKE A MAP AS YOU GO ALONG. It can be hard to remember the pathways to each area. New routes gradually unlock as you do things, but they may be over on the other side of the game. And you need to know the right path to take in order to get places without getting a headache. …Er, an in-game headache.

      - The game makes much use of RPG Maker 95’s ability to change the - cough - color palette. However, being that it’s old as balls, this seemingly only works in full screen mode, and the colors may not be right on modern computers. I’ve found the most authentic experience (probably) comes from running it in emulated Windows 98.

However, I suppose not everyone is going to bother with that. So just imagine that, while it appears to be full-color all the time, most things should be either grayscale or tinted one color, and red things like the blood on B.D.’s dress should stand out a lot, and there should be simulated fade effects, and…

    • I downloaded it and started playing. The color effects are really cool in full screen, but more often my colors flip to negatives and I'm in a weird LCD neon nightmare (solved by just playing in windowed mode). Thanks for the advice on the map because I am stuck for like the fifth time.
