It's interesting how there are so many game commentators that are kids now who are inspired by Pewdiepie, thank you for this thread :L me and my friend started a duo commentary channel 2 days a go, we don't care about money just having laughs as we look back.

Thanks for the list, I was actually going to make a thread like the one described by the OP, not "Why aren't I famous in 2 weeks of starting my channel", but what can I do to improve and help my channel grow. Definitely need to work harder if I want to achieve more success with my channel, such as commentating, editing, etc. but anyways thanks again for the list

Wait... I'm not PewdiePie?
Lol all the points I've seen are really good. I gotta keep reminding myself of Patients cus I will upload a video and be like "I worked really hard and it has 20 views after a day?? I suck at YouTube"
I would like to think that a good handful of youtubers are looking for mature LPers...the rest are looking for someone with a voice that's not one you would hear trash talking in a CoD Lobby -
thanks for all the things said here, I will need to make a big note about this in my head

Really useful tips! Remember the most important thing is that you love to do videos.
If you hate it you won't be anything!
I am 15 and currently have 90 subscribers and I am REALLY happy for every single one.Amnesia Custom Stories , Home, Dead Space, Amnesia: Machine for pigs.

How come no one mentioned luck? Or proper networking? I lack both and am going nowhere with YT. Still fun though, when I have the time.

Also, remember about a balance between quality and quantity. Try to make your content as quality driven as possible, I know it's hard to do for some when the idea of 5 million videos per week sounds cool, it isn't. Yes, there may be more of a chance of that 1 video which you conveniently titled "MADONNA HAD SEX WITH A LLAMA!?!?!?!" attracted quite a few views, but they won't be consistent views, that will most likely be a one off video.
But at the same time the internet video making industry, like any other industry, is a relentless place and you still need to be making content, so it's about finding that balance.
But I tell you what. Putting in a load of effort into a video and it gets less than 100 views, I'm not going to lie. That sucks so hard. Especially when you see some arsehole making a fake thumbnail and title to a video of him/her doing something completely irrelevant. -
Yes Patience I have such a big issue with that. Honestly I think it's because I am very ambitious, Don't get me wrong I am veyr thankful to all my subscribers and honestly I am surprised as to why people would subscribe to me. But honestly I don't know...I'm just weird...XD Anyway just have fun with your video's and I understand when you work hard on a video and you don't get any recognition from it can be frustrating.

I was wondering about how to grow your channel when you focus mainly on smaller, obscure indie games. As some of the games I play don't have a large fanbase it can be difficult to let people know about them. Any tips?

Mhm.
You can gain more friends in a month by being interested in others than you can in a year by trying to get others interested in you. -

But Naikey...your a boss! XDShamelessly advertising my channel ;D youtube.com/user/TheBrownCan -
-You aren't active enough in the (gaming/entertainment) community to be recognised.
-Your channel aesthetics or lack there of effects how the community see you, quality wise.
-You aren't thinking outside the box, to try and stretch your channel's reach.
-Your channel isn't versatile, and doesn't cater for a large enough audience.
-You're focusing on the wrong target audience for yout content. 'I.E Minecraft - Usually young kids watch, and they don't like vulgar language.'
Just some suggestions -
I think my main reason (beside new channel and not enough content) is my english . This is reason i always fear most when i thought about start my own channel on YT almost year ago . I still dont know if its good idea to record . Dont get me wrong i like it , but there are things i sometimes want to say but dont know how to put it . After few videos my english and speaking got far better but this is for me still main problem i have to overcome . Most of you dont even know what i am talking about thou if English is your first language .
