I was wondering for those of you who have experience recording and editing videos, do you record audio and video on two different programs? For example, Fraps to record gameplay and Audacity to record audio commentary? Is it better to do it this way? Does it make it easier to edit?
Recording Audio and Video on seperate programs?

It makes it alot easier. However, you can do it even easier if you use the programm "DxTory" for recording. It offers better costumisation and you can record your microphone on a seperate audiofile.

I record everything seperately. When doing consoles I use Audacity and my capture program and when I use PC I use Fraps or Bandicam depending on the game via my PC and then I use audacity on my laptop to keep control of the audacity settings while in-gameThere is always time for muffins.

Im using FRAPS or Bandicam to my Let's plays it depends on the game when its long i use bandicam : Also i use bandicam when i only have commentary
Fraps : i use it when i have a commentary with facecam

i use just playclaw because it has an option to make the sound it records to a separate file.
if i record facecam with commentary i just use movie nmaker -
I record gameplay with Fraps and use audacity for my voice
For my face I record with my camera so again it's a separate file but in sony vegas I put them all together
It looks like a lot of other people have a similar set up -
When playing PC games I record with Fraps for both the video and voice. When on console, I use Audacity and the HDPVR 2.

Just make sure you give yourself a clear marker for where they sync up. For example, I always start audio rolling first and then say exactly when I hit the record key for video so I can know where to split my audio track to match up with where the video starts. As long as you can sync up both tracks together, they're easy to edit from there.

download microsoft expression encoder 4 and type in this product key: 6WDDQ-K7D4F-GQGF4-2VYBJ-8K6MB i did it and it works perfect! it may not have the best screan capturing in the world but its good enough for me! dont look up any tutorials on how to use it because you dont need all of that. just click on file, ad then encode. just make sure that you also have the screan capture tool too.____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

I used to, but my Fraps broke (I don't know either o_0) So now I use Camtasia, which let's you record video and music, and then edit it after in the same program. It's easier to edit, but is probably not as good at video and audio recording...
It's really up to what you like better, what you find easier and what you have. Both ways have different editing paths and ways, and both have pro's and con's..A smile a day, keeps sadness away!
Come and have a good ol' cuppa with me... You know you want to ... -
Thanks for sharing how you record video and audio I'll have to try some of these different suggestions and see which one I like best, thanks again!

I use Fraps for gameplay footage and Camtasia for both facecam and audio.

I use Fraps to record and WMM to record facecam/audio. Though I still need to try Camtasia for facecam/audio...
