I'm sure its right infront of my face but i just got sony vegas pro 12 in the mail, i activated it and all. Everything went smooth, but as soon as i dropped in a video to edit i can't hear anything. I clicked a mute button to see if it was that but nope. I don't know what it is can anyone help? I have no audio coming out of my speakers when i preview my video :( my sound on my computer is all the way up. But still nothing.

  • There could be a few ways to solve this problem:

    1) Go to the Volume Mixer (if you have windows 7) by right clicking the volume icon. Have a look for the Sony Vegas 12 application and see if it is turned down.

    2) Go into Sony Vegas, then view, and click Master Bus. This option is the master sound for your whole project. Check if that is low.

If it isn't that, it would have to be a codec problem. Find out what audio codec your video uses and download it :)

    Hope this helps!

I tried pretty much everything you said, i checked the volume mixer and the master bus. Both fine volume is all the way at the top, I don't really know how to check for what codec my video audio is so i just downloaded a windows 7 codec pack and it didn't fix anything :(

What program did you use to record the video? Some programs use really random codecs that are not found in general packs.

  • Something I learned with my HD PVR is that if the computer sound is muted, there won't be any noise coming from the recording once rewatched. It's dumb like that :(.

I usually just end up plugging in a pair of spare headphones in the audio jack of my pc that way I can play the console game without the game recording sound coming from my computer feeding into my mic.

Also, a screen shot of your sony vegas while you have everything up and in the program would be useful for us

Do you have an audio track when you drag your video on the timeline?

I don't know what an audio track is/looks like lol sorry im really not good with any technical terms. But i don't think i do

Holy shit really? Is it like that with the whole if you have your computer muted thing just for vegas? Because i upload videos to youtube with no problem the audio is fine. And unless you can take a screenshot with vegas? Which i don't think you can, i don't have any software to do that sorry :( i'll try and take a pic with my phone? Hopefully it'll be clear enough for you guys to see.

  • Erm, taking a screen shot is as simple as hitting the Print Screen (Prt Sc) button on your computer, and then hitting "paste" in microsoft paint and saving the image.

and Noooo, I was saying that If i have my PC system sound muted or volume turned all the way down while recording, that the recording from the Hauppauge HD PVR doesn't carry any sound with it. It appears (at least in my case) that the volume of the recording with the HD PVR recording is linked to how loud the output on my computer is, so having my system sounds muted while recording would result in a recording with no sound when I go to playblack the recording later with the sound on.

It doesn't have any audio associated with it. Make sure you had recording audio selected in your HD PVR software.
