  • Pewdie-piracy?

I have no idea whether or not Pewdiepie actually does this, but I feel like I've heard him hint a few times during his videos that he's playing a pirated game. I'm not accusing him, but just makes me wonder... Does anyone know for sure if and when he pirates the games he records?

I think there could be some cases that wouldn't bother me (like if he played a game using an emulator on a PC, but owned it on another platform, that would be okay with me). So, with a few exceptions, I'd lose a lot of respect for him if he pirated any of the stuff he plays. I hope he doesn't do it! D:
  • I also believe he buys his games on steam and whatnot, except the emulated games like PS1 and shit. But isn't there a law that permits emulation if the game is no longer for retail sale?

Either way, who cares really? I mean not in a bad why, but why would a VIEWER care? If you're asking cause you work for whatever form of government deals with that stuff then ok, but if you're a viewer what is the reasoning behind you wanting to know? o_O

  • Yep, looks like Pewdie has a ton of stuff on his Steam games list, so that's a good sign!

As someone who makes/plays games, I care because game developers can only make games full time if they get money from it, and stealing their games gets them no money. As a viewer, I care because I'd like to be able to respect Pewdie as a person, and it would be pretty terrible of him to make money off these games without supporting the developer by buying the games.
  • Well, actually i'm almost sure his 'Parappa the Rapper' is pirated because you can see it's a ROM, but that isn't wrong since the game is from late 90s/early 2000s so it's "license" has already ended. Games like Final Fantasy VII and GTA San Andreas you can stay during all the video saying "THIS SHIT IS PIRATED LOLOLOLOLOLOLO" and no one could flag it.

Why is that a question of respect? XD

I'm perfectly fine with it if people pirate games like Call of Duty, because they are just releasing one game after another, and each one is basically the same game.
If they are trying to sell the same ideas and concepts over and over again, they clearly don't care about their customers. XD

Imo nowadays most games are so bad and just lacking innovations, that they simply deserve to be pirated.

Well in pewdie's case: He's playing many interesting and good games such as Amnesia, that deserve to be bought.

I'm currently making a game myself, and I was planing to release it for free right from the beginning, because I know if it's good it will be pirated anyways.
So why should I waste my time on a copy protection if the game would be cracked anyways?

That's why I was aiming for a very different approach:
I want to earn the money from the loyally of the community.
Basically I want to give the possibility to create custom stories later on.
I want to gather them on a website, to get the users of the game to visit the website as often as possible, so I can earn money from advertisments that are placed on the website.
This way everything is free, and I still get some money from it.

I'm convinced that capitalism will die pretty soon anyways XD, so what's the big deal?
  • An example:

Usually I download games before I consider buying them.
Just recently I downloaded a game to test it.

In the official forum people say the demo of the game is running at 50-60 FPS on their machines,
and that the full version is running at 15-25 FPS. They are angry and regret they bought it.

So with that in mind I decided to download the full version to test it before I actually buy it.

And Surprise: The game isn't running on Windows 8 AT ALL.
And no, it's not a issue of the crack, it's an issue of the game, and a patch wasn't released until now.
Also there is no patch that adresses the other performance issues.
And no, it isn't a new game, it's already some years old, so the company had the time to fix this shit,
    but they didn't.

So to sum this up, if I had bought the game right away:
    1. It wouldn't be playable on Windows 8 at all, so I would've had to install Windows 7 again
    2. I probably would've had performance issues, although the game should run smoothly
    3. All this although they game is using Unreal Engine, which is pretty stable on Windows 8 in other games

In this case, like it was the case many times, I'm just glad I haven't bought it.
