    • Loosing a close pet.

I know this isnt a usual topic for the Real Life section of the forums but I thought id ask either way.
Today I lost my dog of 15 years to kidney and liver failure. He was like a best friend and he was always by my side.

I was curious if anyone else here has had the same experience?
Had or still have a pet that is very close to their heart, or maybe a friend that experienced it.
Id just like to know :]
    • Sorry about your dog... ;-;

I do know it's hard... my very first cat, I got him when I was 5. He lived for over 20 years (I'm 28, he died some years ago) and that cat was like my little brother. We also had another cat who lived almost the same amount of years and he was special too but losing him wasn't so hard for some reason. I really don't know why. I guess it was because he was more friends with my mom. lol.

And my two cats now... ugh, someday... I can't even think of it... but yeah, I do understand.

Sorry I know what it is like to loose a dog. When I was in 1st grade I loved a little dog named Mischief. She got a tumor and died. I didn't go into school that day because of it. She was my closest friend
Yeah, thats exactly what I did today honestly. I may be in highschool but it was really hard for me to cope with it because ive had this dog for so many years.
    • Well we had this toy poodle when I was 5, we only had it for a month, she walked under my mom's foot and broke her neck. I was in the bathroom at the time and my mom came in screaming, I never saw the body but I do remember seeing blood in the hallway. I cried alot and my grandmother took me to pizzahut.

We got another toy poddle a couple months later, had her for 16 years. She was my best friend, very upsetting watching her being put down.
    • My dog got hit my a car about a week ago I think.
Was sad, storm-guard (little rubber thing you put in your door to make sure wind and stuff dun get through) prevented the door from latching after I took it outside. While that was unlatched, I was in the shower. After I got out they were gone (I had two). We found one with ease but the other had ran off. So I waited around then got a call from a guy who saw it on the road, dead as a rock, and tags on it. It was about 4 years old, Basset Hound, female. Good dog but was "Shy" to new people so I think that's why it ran away from everything.
    • I've lost two dogs, one from old age and the other we had to put down due to some unfortunate events. I have a cat that has been with me since I was three, I'm 21 now. and I'm pretty sure he was already 1 or 2 when we got him. So, knowing he probably doesn't have much longer scares me a little. I'm constantly worried if I'm going to come home from work one day and he will have passed. Or sometimes when he's sleeping I'll shake him awake because it seriously doesn't look like he's breathing. So even just thinking about it is hard ._.
    • I've never really had pets for a long time .. I had a goldfish, for like, 3 weeks or something. And then it died one day.

Then we had a parrot, who used to shit a lot, and we set it free.

And now, I have another bird.

The only pet I really wanna have is either a Bunny, Cat or a baby Monkey.

By the way, I think it's supposed to be Losing a close pet*
    • I'm really sorry to hear about your dog :L

I know how it feels like...
My dog is a schnauzer, I mean he was pretty cool :)

I had him when I was about 11 years old but I have to gave him away on January last year because it's too expensive to send him over to New Zealand when he has to get 3 blood tests and some other serious stuff. That could kill him or anything so I have no choice but to give him away :/

He was my little brother since I'm the only child and he listens to what ever I said.

Well I hope i can see him again :L
He had his birthday on the Nov 9 and i think he is now 5 years old?

Dude, I know how it feels. It hurts
    • Sorry about your dog man, they truly are like an extra family member somtimes... I lost mine in June and she was like a younger sister to me, she'd always wait by the door for me to come home from college and could always tell when I was upset by sitting near me and looking up at me all sad ;( it makes me tear up just thinking about her but she was in so much pain from arthritis that the vet said it'd be cruel to keep her alive. The worst part is I never got to say goodbye to her... my mum left for the vets without telling me because we was all going through a rough time (other deaths and family arguments including trouble from my ex and her family) then when she did finally tell me I snapped and punched a wall shattering the bones in my fist before crying for 5 hours straight, I then disappeared for 10 hours and got really drunk and high and was a wreck for quite a while.

I know the pain all too well, I just hope you can deal with it better than I did!

the only picture I have of me and her...

    • Sorry to hear about your dog. I know how you feel. I started the year out with seven pets... (four cats, three dogs). Now I have four animals... (one cat, three dogs). In January I had to my cat, Max, down for having jaw cancer (he was 17). A few months later, my cat, Roxy, got an infection in her uterus. Luckily, I just got my income tax check and took a chance on doing surgery on her (she's still young) even though there was only a 50/50 survival rate. Thankfully, she made it through (and she's as fat as ever =P). A month after that, we had to our other cat, Schroeder, down (he had a seizure and lost all feeling in half his paw. It was due to several aneurisms. , so we had to put him down.) He was fifteen. In August, we had to my cat Gizmo down - he had a heart condition that wasn't treatable. He was loosing weight dramatically because it kept him from gaining weight... and he had a seizure while we brought him to the vet. Had to put him down. He was sixteen.

*knockonwood* My dogs are doing great, thankfully. But yeah, putting down a pet is hard. I grew up with all of of them so it was painful to loose all three in just the one year. But they were in that age frame, I guess =/ Most people don't understand that a pet isn't just some animal... it's a member of your family.

    • Here's my story of losing my 3 pets.

~ I had a cat named Sabrina, aka "Fluff" (or "Skin" when she was shaved), who was a real b*tch. Seriously, she was a monster, but she was my monster. I say my monster cuz she was born 10 days after my 10th birthday, so she was like my other cat's belated birthday present to me. One day, my mom noticed she was getting really thin and mangy, but didn't bother to catch her and take her to the vet and she disappeared (outside cat). My mom told me that animals sometimes go off by themselves to die alone. 3 days later, my sis found her under a neighbor's car, completely emaciated, dehydrated, and screaming for help. Luckily I had some pain medicine left over from my other cats' surgeries to help with her pain, and we rushed her to the emergency vet. They told us she had either cancer, kidney failure, or feline leukemia and she couldn't be saved, so we decided to humanely euthanize her. She died at the age of 12. She had a sister named Samantha, aka "Sammy", who had disappeared when they were 2 years old, and I don't know what happened to her.

~ I had a big dog named Valerie, aka "Boo", who lived to the ripe old age of 13. For the last 3 or so years of her life, she was really arthritic and some days could hardly stand up to go outside, but she still always smiled and wagged her tail when we came home. (yes, dogs can smile) The day we finally decided it was her time was when she stopped smiling, although we could tell she was still happy that she could still give us a "high five". Something went wrong while they were euthanizing her and she didn't get the full lethal dose she was supposed to receive, but she was so weak that it still did the job. I still have her leash and collar.

~ And lastly, I had another cat named Schizophrenic, aka "Skit", which we got from a neighbor who didn't want her anymore and was just gonna leave her to survive on her own, and was the momma cat of Sabrina and Samantha. She was an outside cat, and lived for 14 years (which is ancient for an outside cat, since the lifespan of outside cats is usually 2-5 years). One day, she got into a bad cat fight with one of the local feral tom cats and developed a huge abscess on her cheek. Since she was so old, she wouldn't be able to heal properly and she was taken to the vet to be euthanized. I didn't go with my family to the vet cuz I had work and didn't want to be a sobbing wreck at work after watching her pass away.

I lost all 3 of my childhood pets in 3 months; it was really hard. But I now have 2 cats, Ginger and Brigitte (who respond to "b*tch" and "c*nt" more than their real names), and 3 dogs named Andy, Brinkley, and Chloe. They help fill the hole that was left behind when I lost my pets. Even though they'll never replace my other 3 pets, I still love them just as much.
    • Sorry 'bout your dog ;( I've had the same dog for ages now and the thought of her leaving makes me want to shoot myself. No joke.
Well, we've had a number of cats but only one of them I remember crying over. And my sister and I have had 2 hamsters each and I was really upset about one of them.
But I think the worst was when I was outside one day and I heard tires screeching up the road. Turns out my neighbors beloved terrier was hit by a car. He died on the way to the vet. Seeing my closest neighbors (and my best friend) go through that was really sad.
We people get too attached to pets :P
