  • Just good isn't good enough anymore?

    Sup Bro's?!

In the last few weeks i've been thinking about creating my own channel on youtube. I figured that since I love gaming so much that i'd wanted to create a LP channel. Although i've been recently introduced to the LP genre ( about half - to a year ago ), I never expected sooo many content creators. Right now I feel like I have almost no chance to get anywhere if I started to create now ( although I'm sure that I deliver quality/funny videos ). Some how it feels like you just need to be pulled up by a big youtuber, which almost automatically guarantees succes [if you are good ofc] ( that even happend to Pewdie, -not saying that he doesn't deserve it, since I love his vids- ). Maybe some creators did make it from small to big without any help, but I think applies more to exceptions than to the average user.

So, what is wisdom. Should I try it the ordinary way and just make videos and see where I end up? I don't feel like that's the right way.. Should I make it more original? Do a challenge for every video? ( If I don't make a certain level, I do a certain dare ? ) Should I get a lot of hot girls from my university and let them play games? Should I make ordinary videos and spam the comment boxes with 'I know no one will read this, but...'.

Some how it feels like the LP industry stagnated right between Pewdie and Toby ( and a few others ). While there are so many good LPers out there. Is the only way to get their is getting featured at their channels? They can literally make some ones dream come true( By even just giving a link/shout-out at their Facebook). And then that new person can help some one else etc etc. Or should you just start.. and see what happens?

What is your thought about this? I appreciate any thought expressed whether you feel the same way as me or not(even if it's just one sentence). It is much better then to just read and click away :).

    Thanks for reading,

    -Blu

To already react to some upcoming replies about " Don't make a YT channel if you do it only for fame etc" I do not want to create this for fame or anything, but I really want to be able to entertain people, interact with them, answer their questions in comments, make their day and maybe later be able to discuss some serious issues with my viewers.

  • I started doing LP's 21 days ago.
I already have 42 Subscribers and 4k+ video views.
I wasn't helped along by any 'big' youtubers.
As long as you have the drive and you market yourself right, you can make a splash in the ocean of LP'ers.
Just decide what and how you're going to do things and go from there.

    I wish you luck!

ugh , how small your 'fanbase' is , you can still interact with them , infact even better.

  • You have right attitude to youtube atleast.
Go out there and do your thing.
I might give a shoutout if you are good enough.
Advertising here could get some too, try other forums aswell and see of you could get some on the hook.
Play what you want, when you want and then your subs will be surprised when you upload.
  • I second Cirno on the fanbase size. In a way it's better to have a small fanbase, as you can read every message and even answer them :)

    Yeah, I'm a comment fetishist x'D
Have you seen a tea party taken to a whole
new level? Well my tea party features the usual stuff (tea, cake,
pastries...) mixed with video games, monsters, ghosts, blood and lots of
    screams and giggles.

Don't be shy and join the party, there's room for everyone! Here's the path to
    Rose Reaper's Geek Tea Party.
  • Thanks for all replies guys. In order for me not being able to react to every one I must have a looooot of viewers xD. I guess finding out what works is just by trial-and-error, i'll just give it some thoughts over the weekend.

edit: I agree with Br00tal, in general comments are quite rare ( even when I post in this article that every comment is welcome, only 5%-10% answers ). Also the topic of my thread wasn't really about me interacting with my audience, but about how to get a bigger audience.

  • Like I said in my first post, a big part (in my opinion) is how you market yourself.
Make your channel look as professional as possible.
    Banner, icon, background, ect.

It intrigues people to check you out.
    Like:
"Oh, this guy put a lot of work into his channel, I should check him out!"

Personally I don't do anything fancy really, just make it look clean.

Thanks for replying Onyx, I agree on the 'professional/quality part'. It is just that a lot of people manage their background/banner/icon well, which makes me wonder whether the new generation of LP'ers should come up with more original (structural) changes in their channel/videos.

  • It's an old saying but it works for YouTube channels and videos too- "Build it and they will come".

Keep uploading stuff. Do things. Be interactive. Give people incentive to watch your videos and they will do so. They'll tell others and post your videos elsewhere. If you have fun and bring the viewer in to have fun too, it's gonna be something they're gonna wanna stick with and share themselves, because in general if people find something they like their first reaction will be to get someone and go 'hey, look at this'. In which case, be what your viewers like about you. Know your audience.

Also be nice to your viewers. Nobody likes an arsehole.
