Ico

    • I thought about suggesting this a few times since Pewdie has been exploring games with great stories, but I always had the impression that he didn't like doing puzzles :D With him playing Limbo, though, I decided to go out on a limb and suggest this game. And you bros should also play it. It's an absolute classic.

Story: The protagonist is a boy named Ico who was born with horns growing from his head. Because of this, he is taken away by his villagers to a castle surrounded by water where he is locked up. A tremor allows him to escape his prison. Not long after his escape, he discovers a captured girl and frees her from her birdcage. They cannot speak the same language. Their only way to communicate is with short words and hand gestures. Yet Ico and the girl form a bond as they traverse this complicated castle, fight off the dark creatures trying to capture the young girl, and find a way to escape their prison.

Gameplay: This game takes place inside a castle that is seemingly one giant puzzle. It's a three-dimensional platform game played in a third person perspective. Ico is able to do many things in typical platform games like jump, climb, push objects, ect. to solve puzzles. Yet his companion is the one that brings an extra challenge to the game. She is the key that can open the doors in this castle, yet she can only jump short distances and can't climb tall heights. It is up to Ico not only to help her reach these doors, but also to protect her from dark creatures that try to pull her into black vortexes. Ico can kill them with his stick, but if he leaves her for too long, the creatures will come and snatch her away.

Overall, this game is one of the most beautiful games I have played, both graphically and storywise. The story is very simple, yet effective. The game has few cutscenes, but the story is delivered through the gameplay. You cannot help but feel attached to this young girl as you protect her and work together throughout their journey.

Where to buy: This game has recently been released for PS3 in an HD collection with Shadow of the Colossus (another fantastic game, imo). All major retailers have it so I don't feel much need to provide a link. Just search it on your favorite gaming or online distributor.
    • I have both Ico and SotC for the PS3, and they are both wonderful games. Now waiting for the official release dates for The Last Guardian so I can feed the giant cat-dog-bird thing some barrels because I always wanted a pet the size of a school bus to take me places, wouldn't try to eat me and wouldn't mind me waking it up with me jumping on it's head.

Both games way too long for someone as audience to keep interest.

That's what I thought about SotC and that's why I recommended Ico. Half of SotC is spent riding your horse to each location, but I guess with editing it could work. As for Ico, I beat the game in 4.5 hours so I don't think it's that long. It does feel long when you're playing it, though :D
    • THIS WOULD BE AMAZING! Time is the only issue with these puzzles and epic story games. We rely on Genius Pewds to get through them and sometimes he might take awhile. I suggested him an indie game that had a long adventure style and I don't think he could do it, but Ico seems doable if SotC is too long and genius pewds might not get through it without editing vids a lot which would take him even more painstakingly longer. But for sure this is a game that the community should play... As well as SotC of course :)

Hopefully his next story based adventure we see is Ico!
