    • I AM BATMAN! Let's Play Batman: Arkham Asylum

      Bat-Gameplay! Bat-Commentary! Bat-Trivia! Bat-Humor!

Arkham Asylum- the greatest Batman game ever made. The greatest comic book game ever made for that matter. Games are about experiences, and well, we all want to be Batman don't we? Minus the unrelenting tragedy. This is the game we always wanted. Finally. You can be Batman. Freeflow Combat lets you clear the room in seconds. Silent Predator lets you hunt thugs like the dark knight you are. Gadgets a-plenty, characters well-known and obscure, brilliant voice-acting by Batman vets such as Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamill, a worthy Batman story by Paul Dini, richly detailed environments- this game cannot be praised too highly. It feels like a somewhat darker, more mature version of the Bruce Timm/Paul Dini animated series and that's great. This is a Batman who can feel, who has emotion and can express resolve without simply being "grim'n'gritty." This is probably the finest depiction of Batman and his mythos you will ever come across, effortlessly weaving together various interpretations into something rich and fantastic.

Given that I am familiar with both the game and the world of Batman, I am looking forward to this: there is a great deal to talk about and I would like to do it all justice. The gameplay, the presentation, the characters and their relationships, the mythos- it will be wonderful. I welcome any suggestions for commentary topics: there is quite a lot to say.

      Part 1: I AM BATMAN!
      Part 2: It's JOKER-RIFFIC!
Part 3: Paging Dr. Young, Dr. Chen, Dr. Kellerman
Part 4: The Death of Commissioner Gordon?

    • Part 4: The Death of Commissioner Gordon?

Part 4! We put Cash through detox (and Dr. Kellerman), open unwanted presents, use philosophy against unsuspecting thugs, have a few scares, get creeped out, mourn Jason Todd, mention the Ayatollah of Iran, choke out thugs, drop in on Harley, and deliver an anti-Venom PSA. Also, terrible Bane impressions, farewell Batmobile I knew thee well, and aint that thumbnail neat?

    • Part 6: The Origin of Batman

It is a New Year for us, but still the same night for Batman! We almost have Dr. Young's notes in our Bat-hands... But wait! It appears that Scarecrow's gas has returned- and Batman will have to face another night long past, one even worse than this one...

As a note, I decided to drop the sections where I show the Spirit of Arkham's messages. Though the story is good and the payoff for finding them all rewarding, I felt they interrupted the action too much and made for bad viewing. I'll try to leave in the interview tapes where I can, as they can play while the game is running.

      Anyhow...

It sure is great getting back into this! Now, discussion time! What are your thoughts on Batman's origins and the question of what Batman is? Hero? Psychopath?

    • Hmmm I don't know what to think of it really. It is kind of like a commentary on the game itself instead of a fully engaging Let's Play. I think it might be cool if you gave your type of commentary style a type of title like instead of Arkham Asylum Part 1, maybe call it Inside The Mind: Arkham Asylum #1 or Inside The Game: Arkham Asylum. Something that promotes the analytic and informative way that you speak.

I can see you becoming a very popular Youtuber though once you have fine tuned it all a bit. I wish you the best of luck :D

    • Having a title like that is not a bad idea, I guess- I definitely have been focusing on providing analytic and informative commentary as you say, but my plan was to go through the whole game, offering a running commentary, examining the game while also communicating the fun of playing it. I intend to make videos focusing entirely on analysis in the future, though; "Inside the Game" would be an excellent title for those. I'm not sure I understand what you mean by a fully-engaging Let's Play, though.

Generally I see a Let's Play as someone playing a game for the first time and we the viewer are experiencing the reactions to that person playing them. It is kind of like reading a person's mind while they play the game. You obviously don't do that in your videos and so I don't feel engaged to continue watching. It is like watching a playthrough where we don't get the gamer's opinion. The video is more like a narration of the game itself, which is not a bad thing at all! This is not me complaining.

I am just saying that from my perspective I see a Let's Play as 1:1 experience between gamer and viewer with the game itself.
