Both Singleplayer & Multiplayer has A LOT to offer. The point in Survival is to build a shelter to survive the night. Mine ores. Make weapons & armor. Fight monsters. Level up. Enchant you tools & weapons. In Creative mode you can do pretty much ANYTHING you want. The limit is set by your own imagination. You can build big cities with lots of cool stuff. You could build a big arena and let Iron Golems fight other monsters. Minecraft is a great game once you give it a chance.

I prefer Windows 7. Windows XP is not that bad either. As long as you don't choose Vista you'll be fine
