Really, if you want to make the best videos, you do need some of the non free stuff. There's always a way to get what you want though, I'll say that. Off the top of my head, as far as recording, I believe there is a free lesser version Fraps on their site, as well as a trial version of Camtasia. EDIT: Usually when you record your program will record both audio and video so syncing shouldn't be a big issue, though I know you can unlink/relink audio and adjust its length in Camtasia.
