Fraps usage of CPU, yeah... Options you can try on Fraps: - Set the Frames per Second (FPS) around 30. - Lower the quality (Both video and sound). - Change the codec to something better (Xvid, AVI, WMV, etc) - Change the resolution. You can also try to lower any quality, shadow or lightning option in-game, but I don't think it would change anything. Change to any else recorder if the problems still occur.

I prefer Bandicam, good video quality and small file size. Now I use it to record games with. To record my desktop or web browser I rather use Camtasia Studio.
