If he converts it he will lose some of the quality. If possible he should just reduce the preview Quality/size in the editing software. However if no options are available converting or rendering will do the job. Keep in mind everytime you convert/render/compress you lose some data.

Try to have preview in smaller quality in the editing software. When I do my editing in vegas, if the preview quality is ramped up to maximum, it isnt able to show me crossfading or stuff like that, it just jumps over it. However after setting the preview to "lesser" quality, it works just fine. As for the ingame thing, that's normal and it wont show up in the footage.

You will be always able to buy way better computer for cheaper price if you buy the components and assemble it yourself. The assembling part may sound hard, but aslong as you follow the intructions provided you'll be fine. What you should do is look for site that is dedicated for pc component stuff. If you want professional programs for actual professional use aka filming (not editing game footage). There are pretty much these options: Avid Adobe Premiere Apple Final cut These are the "professional" programs they use. While Vegas pro is good and cheap, I dont think many media-houses actually uses it.

Buy the console that has the exclusive games you want to play. If you dont really care about Gears of War or Halo (as example) and you do like Killzone alot, it wouldnt make any sense to get Xbox one. One option would be to get both hah.

Might be bit late respond but here's how I did my facecam recording for my current letsplay: Here's the set up: Game is being recorded with fraps (60fps). OBS (Open broadcast software) records webcam (30fps) only. My commentary is recorded with Soundforge (48kHz 16Bit stereo). So I use different programs for each thing.
