First and foremost, you have to be amusing to watch. I think this is the single most important thing. People who are naturally a bit of a character will do well. Then, a lack of technical issues. No one's going to watch if you're so quiet they can't hear you. And I think at least a little interaction with the people who watch you. It keeps their interest.

So you get in your car and KERSHPLAT (read: hit) the zombies and the soldiers trying to stop you from HAULING ASS OUT OF A ZOMBIE-INFESTED ZONE. I get the feeling pewdiepie playing this game would be quite amusing. (Especially since....GASP...there's barrels that help you not die!)

Left 4 Dead 2: Expert. Doing okay. Then they PUT A SITTING WITCH RIGHT WHERE I NEED TO GO and can't walk around her. So I HAVE to piss her off. Bayonetta: Jeanne. Just....Jeanne. Everytime she shows her face. Happy Wheels: When people don't playtest their levels properly and I find out I can't play that level with Santa/Lawnmower guy even though all are selectable. Lawnmower guy's my favorite! The lawnmower eats people!

In my experience, there is no catch-all strategy that works. It depends highly upon the person. Heck, my boyfriend TROLLED ME when we first met and we've been together for six years. Having similar hobbies is more of a deciding factor though, in my experience.
