Microphone recording

I need some help with recording my mic properly. I know that Audacity can record your mic with a hotkey (and that you can record sound with several videocapturing software , but that second sound track desync's and ruins the whole audio) but it only works when the program is "active" meaning that you have clicked on the window or whatever. So I'm searching for a tool to record my mic/sound which allows recording with an hotkey even when its in the background. This would solve a lot of problems actually.

Basically the recording done with Program "X" will be the second soundtrack in the vid(s)

Well yeah :p I mean, what kind of video are you recording for? Commentary, voice acting, singing, etc?

So I'm guessing your screen recorder's voice-capturing quality is horrible? Well, I just click record and start recording the gameplay straight after, then try my best to align my voice with the video.

Bandicam ain't that bad.:D And I was also searching for a software like this because audacity doesn't work that way.

currently using playclaw 3 and I have used bandicam before , but playclaw needs less RAM etc. to record then Bandicam.

Did you buy it? What's your current specs anyway? I bought Bandicam and it's serving me well so far.:)

Lol , Intel 2.4 (overclocked to 2.7) GHZ Dual-core /w 256 MB Vid Card and 2 gig RAM. Whaddya expect? A super PC? :P. Meet my toaster.

Actually had this problem with more than just Audacity, it seems to be a priority issue with Windows. I just go to volume control, make sure Microphone is visible, and uncheck "Mute". You should now hear yourself on your headphones when you talk into the mic. This means you will get both game sounds, and your voice all in one video/track. While this is easier, because it eliminates the syncing (besides syncing webcam back to audio) I still wish I could record the webcam and microphone to their own track without the game audio, WHILE they're in the background. But I just never figured out how to do that on Windows.

Yeah but this is really annoying for me , since when I hear myself talking I will either stop talking or ruin my whole sentence + going engrish and stuff.

Ah, yeah. And not to mention it becomes harder to adjust the volume correctly. There's most likely a way to do it on Windows with some program out there, but I haven't found it. I was actually considering getting a separate audio port (maybe USB audio/microphone?) and just recording voice on that instead. Was kinda hoping there'd be a way to do it with just software though.. Damn Windows.

I just run Audacity, click record, then run the game.. Once I'm at a point where I want the audio and video synced up, I count down from 5 and I lean close to my keyboard when I hit my video recording hot key. Then I just find that point in my audio recording and delete everything before the sound of me hitting the hot key.

It's probably not the most efficient way to do it, but it works for me.

Paying attention to the audio peaks/wave graph makes it extremely easy to sync audio back to video if you don't have a lot of background noise (which is where a good filter comes in.)
