Youtube supports many files types, I recommend rendering your videos to .wmv, this is the format I use, it takes short time to render and upload faster, never save them as .avi it will take a long time. As a screen recorder there are many out there, but the one's I like to use are: Camtasia studio, Bandicam. I use more the second one. I hope I helped you, and after you've done a movie, go to render not just save the file, because the program will save the file for the program type. Windows Media Player is a program, not a video file xD, a video file is in .wmv, .avi, .mp4, ... and lot more, if you mean your video file not supported, you can use "FormatFactory" to convert your file to any format you want like I did name here..
